  9. As long as the pH was steady (not going up and down all the time) then it wouldnt be the reason the plecs are dying. Alot of fish, even though they have their certain living conditions, can live in different water, as long as it is stable. So i doubt that the pH would of killed them (6.2 aint even that bad anyway REALY) Im not sure about the algae, good luck
  10. It is tiger Lotus, not a pond plant. often hard to find. Cant wait for the full tank pic(s)

  13. **Cough** Holden ** cough** Shae, if you got a ford v8 turbo then yea sure, it will smash a v8 holden, BUT, if you got a v8 turbo ford AND a v8 turbo holden, the holden would kick butt off topic, off topic, off topic FORD= Found on rubbish dump, fixed or repaired daily (backwards) diver returns on foot.........
  14. Hi Im also starting a planted tank ATM so have been reading this thread through thouroughly Anyway, I was just wondering if you measure the levels of phosphate, potassium, magnesium and nitrogen in your tank?? also, how do you dose them?? do you measure specific amounts and put it in or just do it until the levels are correct?? I am keen to get these macro-ferts for my tank, along with flourish
  15. seperate the parents if you dont want anymore..... USUALLY helps
  16. imagine getting a 2 foot aro stuffed by a taxidermist and hangin that off ya wall
  17. That is sooo true if its a fish like an oscar or sumthing you are so close to. I usually just flush fish, but only once they are dead, i have never had to euthanise a fish so im not sure what i would do Alcohol sounds good Rogan
  18. i bought a large tube of selleys glass sealeant, Aquarium safe, for $14.50 the other day. it is one of the caulking gun type ones Its soooo handy to have silicone sitting around for all those little things it can be used for. i had a smaller tube of the same stuff before this tube but it was harder to get out because you had to squueeeeeze it to get it out and it wasnt as acurate. Im never going to get another squeeeze type tube again. im going to use alot of it eventually anyway so its not going to wast, and probably ends up cheaper to buy it in larger amounts anyways. HTH Rogan
  19. you will be paying people to take them away from you buddy But to the point A mate had a breeding pair of convicts, he just left the babies with the parents for a couple lots and a few survived, a few didnt. he took some away from the parents and fed them on flake food only!!! and hundreds survived. HTH Rogan
  20. So what do i do about them then, should i just put them on a shut off RCD and the rest on a better one which will not completely shut off???
  21. so the metal halides wont restrike after the power comes back on but will they restrike once they cool down enough?? Is the power going into them whilst they are not restarting going to damage/hurt them in any way??? Thanks
  22. A couple questions about the power i will be using in my new tank. For my new tank setup i have got two 150W metal halide units wired into one plug (240 Volt). I want them to be setup on a timer but i read another thread a while back about having to have a timer that can handle the sudden power burst they need to turn on... (something like that) What kind of timer should i get and where from?? ALSO, I want to put an RCD or similiar onto the main plug going into the tank but i dont want an RCD which will turn off if there is a power surge or cut and needs to be flicked back on manually as i may be away from home and my fish may be without power for a while. Is there an RCD or something which will stop the power from surging so the lights etc. dont blow but doesnt shut off completely?? Also, I had one of my MH units going and then i unplugged it and then plugged it in again but it didnt light. i let it cool and it lit again, so im guessing they wont turn on again when they are hot, so if the power went out and they shut off and then the power went on again and they were still hot they would have power going into them but they wont light. will this damage them or will they need to be on a shut off RCD to stop it from happening? Lots of words  hope it makes sence. i have just confused myself aswell Thankyou Rogan
  23. i have a mate who has a tin foil barb and a pleco with his turtle (temporarily) and they get along well. I reckon you should just try it and if it works it works, if it doesnt, it doesnt. HTH Rogan
