  1. ok So i am going to setup a saltwater tank, It will be a 2 foot, 60L tank(small i know). I am going to go skimmerless at the moment, but may upgrade in the future. I will do water changes every 2 weeks or so with NSW from the mount. I will be using bottled water for top off, and if i ever need it, ASW. I will be using two 2 foot lights (15w) one blue and one white (17000 and 10000 ish Kelvins)The tank will have a HOB filter (which can run carbon or phosphate remover when needed) and a powerhead. I just want to keep a couple mushrooms etc. I just have a few questions i would like answered. 1. How do i go about starting?? I will go collect 60 litres of NSW and put it in the tank with bought live rock. Do i then wait for the tank to have its own cycle or will this already be done because i am using already cured rock and NSW....? 2. What corals would you reccomend for this tank?? 3. Would i be able to keep a cleaner shrimp and 2 clowns happily in this tank? 4. What type of bottled water is best, or should i use, or you have used in the past with no downfalls... 5. Would i be better to start with something like some damsels rather than clowns, IE, are clowns a very hard to keep fish?? Any help you may give me will be apreciated. Thanks Rogan
  2. Yea, Luke has a small coke bottle filled most of the way up with water, with the inlet going into under the water line and the outlet coming out the top, into the reactor.... Pretty good for what they are :-?
  3. Is that in the upstairs tank?? Very nice looking specimen, did you get it from aucks?? I might have to come have a look one day, watch it eat
  4. I got my pencils from Pupuke but i saw them in hollywoods and jansens aswell, I dont know auckland very well so i dont know what is close to you.
  5. Yea i would go with shane aswell... Otocinclus have a tendancy to die when put in a new tank, It happens to alot of people, but i know my two have survived a couple months already so........... Aparently you should look when buying them and not buy any with a sunken stomach or something??!!?? im not sure, Just what i have read
  6. Hi mate, looking good This might be in other places on the forums but could I/we have some specs?? Ie, Lighting, volume, livestock etc.??!!?? Thanks
  7. No gore at all mystic!!! Neon goes into mouth whole, doesnt come out again, You cant realy even see it anyways  Nice jono!!! And nice voice
  8. Thats part of the reason why i love them!! My two males are the funniest fish i own!!! They swim along the tank one second and then they will suddenly stop on the side of a plant and have a sleep  At feeding time they both come from wherever they are in the tank to right in front of me at the top and i stick food right over there heads and they munch!! My older one is a bit senile  I have to hold bloodworms over his mouth so he will see them, then he will go away and eat it (takes about 20 secs!!) and then come back for another, Two fill him up I realy like that colour fighter that conaquavict has got!! If i ever find one like that i will snap it up in a second!!!!
  9. OK So this is my new idea. 2 foot tank (60 L ), Dark gravel substrate, Pots & wood, HOB filter, 300LPH powerhead and dim lighting. My breeding pair have only spawned in a pot before though!!! The reason i am setting up this tank is because my breeding female died the other night and i have 2 big males left in one tank and a couple big females.... So i want to pump out the babys
  10. those are some wicked sounding setups. PICS!!!!
  11. OMG!! that is the nicest betta ever!!!! Well done, and as always, perfect pics
  12. Hi I am just wondering about a few things to have in a tank dedicated to breeding BN. I am after peoples opinions mainly The setup i am thinking of making is a barebottom 2 foot tank, barebottom but with lots of driftwood and pots, HOB filter, Powerhead inside the tank for water movement (150 LPH) and Dim lighting (if any at all). What do you think this would be like??? Im not sure about the flow, would gentle flow be better?? I am wanting to have about 3-4 big females and 1-2 big males in the tank..... (i will feed them lots so they get really big and fat and plump and have lots of babys!!!)
  13. Are these also known as gold nugget plecos L177??? If so, There is info and some pics here
  14. Get all lengths in CM Multiply Length x width x height Then divide the answer by 1000

    wow

Very valid point, it could be a 40 foot tank with monster sized fish in it   But more realisticly (sp?) it is probably around a 6 - 8 foot tank IMO
  16. I want one of them!!!!! What kind of setup is that going into??
  17. Hey man Very nice!! Remember this tank???
  18. Sexing is very easy once they get to a certain size (about 5-6 cm) The males will have big bristles coming off his nose Whereas the female will only have very small bristles if any at all. (maybe do a google image search on female and male bristlenose....??) As for encouraging to breed, I would probably get 1 male and 2 females, feed them up lots and lots on different foods like cucumber, lettuce, frozen bloodworms, pleco pellets and anything else realy.... Bristlenose can be a bit wierd when breeding. A male and a female may breed non-stop for 12 months, laying every month, then they will suddenly stop, and everything you do, they will not breed again for another x amount of months, Then they will suddenly start breeding again..... Good luck. EDIT: I posted the same time as fishboi
  19. What is the temp of the tank?? Bump the temp up to 30 degrees and dose with salt, but only at a half dose because of the BN. Should get rid of it. I have never used this method but many other people have so they can give you more info.
