  1. To try get rid of the algae in the tank
  2. I got bored this morning so moved it all over!! I need a bit more rock though!!! Heres it as of 5 mins ago And a shot from the top sorta, showing the two 2foot lights i have on the tank in the meantime whilst i get the MH ready! The skimmer isnt going yet, i havent got around to it! lol Next things i need to do are get some rowaphos, and get the skimmer going, and then im going to start dosing vodka for a little while.
  3. Oh yea! i forgot about trademe. Sold as condys crystals usualy, but if you search Pottasium permanganate you should still find something!! Its pretty cheap on there too, and you dont need alot!!
  4. Um chemists would be your best bet, but its often hard to get there even!! Im not sure.
  5. There are a few ways to do it. My favourite would have to be Potassium permanganate. Make up a nice pinky mixture in a bucket, and leave the plants in for about half an hour. Bleach does work aswell (at that dose you said) but plants can die from it. You only need to keep plants in bleach for about 2-3mins i think. You can also leave them in the dark for a week or so i think, but i have never done that before... Cant realy think of another way of doing it ATM so hope thats useful to ya
  6. I stick the outlet of my canister filter out the window, and then syphon the crap with a different pipe. My tank drains pretty fast this way as i have two hoses running at once. When its low enoughm i stop the syphon, and turn the filter off and put the hose back into the tank, then i just bring the hose in the window and fill the tank back up. Depending on the size of the water change i also use a bucket or two of hot water if it gets too cold. I used to have a 100L changing bin underneath my tank stand, and did the same things as ant, but there is now a 2 foot tank there, and i usualy do more than 100L's at a time anyways. On my other couple small tanks spread throughout the house i just use a big 20L bucket and a 10L bucket, empty them, then get water from the bathroom into a 10L bucket and tip it in. I find 10L buckets very easy to lift/lug everywhere, not much of a hassle for me....
  7. You cant see where it goes from the pic, the dark part going down is its reflection i think.... EDIT: Oh no thats not the reflection, its a hose of some sort i think....
  8. Thanks guys (and girls!!) Im buying the DI unit off dogmatix, so that will do wonders for the tank!!
  9. Sounds pretty cheap to me. I have been offered a used one for $450!! Good price hazzard!
  10. Thanks for all that wasp! I did realise that it would be a big step up for the corals, so thought i would probably have to get them used to it somehow... I thought that i could just run it for a few hours a day, then after 3 days or so run it for another 30 mins, and then keep upping it every few days until normal. But, i shall do it the way you said if thats ow you would do it!! I plan on dosing vodka once i upgrade, and i also plan on getting some rowaphos before i upgrade aswell. I am going to PM dogmatix now about that DI filter. Thanks again Wasp, your a great help!
  11. Hey. Ive only had my tank running for a few months, and im about to upgrade  The tank i have setup now (30L) only has a 20W light on it, and i realy NEED more light, so, because i had a spare MH sitting around, i thought, why not put it to use?!?!?! So i have had a 38 x 38 x 38 cm tank made, and am in the process of getting it ready for being setup Heres a pic of the tank (with the skimmer randomly hanging on the side  ) Heres the Budget jebo skimmer il be using Heres the seio m620 i scored for $20, perfect condition!! And heres the 150W halide I need to make a hood for.... (14k bulb in the mail ) I will keep snapping pics as i move things over etc. The tank will have the rock and corals from the other tank, plus some more rock eventualy, plus the HOB filter on the smaller tank running carbon and/or rowaphos and probably the 1200lph powerhead on the small tank aswell!! Excuse the $h1T pics
  12. yer, exactly what evil_elmo said, but i like two footers. Good for alot of things, easy to move by yourself, average litreage, all together easy!! Good for breeding, quarantine, communitys, species, biotypes, lizards and frogs
  13. Yes indeed it was a good afternoon. Thanks sharon and paul!!
  14. Yer, it says on those ones that you have, that it should be 1m max. I did have mine a little bit longer until i found it out, but it still worked. Probably wasnt as efficient though.. Im not sure...
  15. I put a little bit stronger light on the tank today (went from 15W to 20W  ) and the corals seem to have coloured up more... Heres a pic of the xenia which has gone quite pink as you can see And the zoas Compare them with yesterdays pics above!! What a difference!! Those photos are all very similiar to what they are in real life, same settings and everything as the others so its not just the photos!!!
  16. I get about 2L's daily on my 30L tank with a fan running...
  17. I must admit, Lukes PMDD does wonders in my tank!!
  18. haha thats cool, ya need a couple mountain minnows in there... (Dont listen to me, that would be cruel, im just crazy....)
  19. Thought so!! I like mine, cos its only like 3 cm acros when fully out and extended 8) Once i get it under the halide it wont take long to grow im sure....
