  4. Very Well put ant.... I used aquatic mix first, then a layer of sand on top and that IMO is the best substrate for plants...

  12. I will be VERY keen on babys if you would sell me some?!?! I would like to grow some up and breed them to try get them established in NZ!!!!
  13. Ok, well i have figured out a good way of attaching the reflector and bulbs etc to the top of the hood, and the bottom of the bulb sits about 5 cm down from the top so im going to aim at having 25cm in between the bottom of the bulb and the top of water, making it about 20cm to the bottom of the reflector.... I do think it will be sweet for a 38cm high tank.... I will take pics and stuf when i get round to making it (got to get the tank first)
  14. AND, how far off the water is your halide? What would you reccomend for a tank 380 high?? Sorry for all the q's
  15. Yer it will affect the heat issue, but because you can only have a maximum of 1 m of cable between the ballast and light, im not sure if it will be possible to have it anywhere else.... Is yours mounted on the side of the cabinet? up underneath? flat etc... got any pics of it mounted?
  16. Ohk. Im thinking of making a box sort of like yours, but have the ballast located inside of it, probably above the reflector part.... I already have a fan running on my tank (on top of my modified HOB filter) So will get another one to put into the hood.... Thanks
  17. Hey steve. Just one question, Where abouts is the ballast for the MH located in your setup??? Im going to be using my MH on a 38 x 38 x 38 cm tank soon, and i am going to make a hood sorta thing similiar to yours.... thanks
  18. Hi. Does anyone know aprox how much the new deltec skimmers will be? Im keen on getting one sometime early next year but would like to know a rough cost.... Thanks
  19. I made some a little while ago from some blue LED's, wired them onto resistors and then into a 12V power supply. 10 LED's, with 12 v resistors cost me $5 off trademe, and the powerpack was just sitting around here... Very easy to do....
  20. Oh, and i dont think the platys would mind the lower pH's and the higher temps may affect them a little bit, but shouldnt kill them just because of it....
  21. Hi. Kribensis *should* be fine with all those fish, but it realy depends on the fish, Kribensis can be Realy nasty, especialy if they are breeding or wanting to breed. On the other hand, they can be quite nice little fish.... I have a pair of kribs in with a pair of keyholes, and a pair of angels, plus lots of other community fish like corys, pencilfish and harlequins, and they are absolutely fine, they dont attack anything, just try scare them, but the keyholes and angels sort them out in no time........
  22. Yea i know you said may, but was just questioning to know if it would survive without hosts (fish) or if it would die eventually....?!?!
  23. If it came to that, could you just pull all the fish out and treat them, then treat the tank and do a water change and then leave it 'fishless' for 6 weeks or so? Surely any remaining worms wouldnt survive without any fish? I know that it would be better than ripping heaps of plants etc out....
