  1. You shouldn't feel bad. If your GBA and Normal did breed in a community tank then very few of the offspring would survive anyway so it wouldn't be a worry. Its only a problem if you were to sell the fry. IMO
  2. Thats true......but you could sell it if you told any prospective buyers that it may be a hybrid and shouldn't be bred from.
  3. As far as I know, there is no way of knowing without breeding them and seeing what the offspring are like which will only perpetuate the problem. That is the problem with letting fish hybridise, no one really knows what they're getting unless you buy directly from a breeder who has a pure strain.
  4. Hi all. I'm probably behind the times so, sorry if this is a repeat, but I saw a doco about Robotic Fish on Discovery today. I Googled it and found this...
  5.  Only if you are making a monetary gain.
  6. Native freshwater crays are definately cold water. They are very unhappy in anything over 20 C. I had one and during a three day hot spell the tank was at 25 C by the time I got home from work each day. I did 30 % waterchanges each day to reduce the temp but it didn't help the Koura. Sadly she died and I've vowed to never keep another native until I have a chiller for the tank.
  7. I know I was scared of them. I can remember hiding behind the couch
  8. Sounds like waaaay too much $$ to me. I'd rather spend $15 each for 4 juveniles and watch them grow up.
  9. Yep...I'm old enough to remember the Triffids. I can just imagine one of those 'arms' whipping out and smacking some poor innocent passerby
  10. Excellent pics and gorgeous fish and tank setup. What camera do you use?
  11. Tank looks great. 'scuse my ignorance about plants but what is the grassy looking ground cover called?? I'd like to get myself some of that.

  16. Its like calling someone a redhead when really their hair is orange
  17. I got him when he was 15-20mm from a private breeder here in ChCh. She was only prepared to sell me the one because my mate had just bought 4 and she didn't have many left. She no longer breeds but it's all good though because my mate has now got juveniles and I'm swapping some of my Cobalt juvies for his Reds 8)
  18. I've had this girl for a year and we think she's around three yrs old.
  19. Hi Caper, The spots are called 'Egg spots'. I believe most Zebras, of any colour, have them and its more dominant in male fish. During spawning the female lays eggs then picks them up in her mouth. She trys to pick up the egg spots on the male and gets milt in her mouth instead....thus fertilising the eggs. They can be aggresive enough to hold their own in a Malawi species tank but not bullyish, at least mines not. Hi smidey All the stuff I've read about NLS says that it enhances the colour of fish and nothing has been mentioned about spirulina causing any grief. I'll keep this thread updated with pics......we'll soon know one way or the other.
  20. I've changed to a new food today , NLS Cichlid formula , which is supposed to be good for colour but also has Spirulina in it, so it's going to be interesting to see what happens. This is a pic of the fish today.
  21.  I take it Grant has hairy feet.....does he have Hobbit ancestry??
