  1. Hi all. I recently got myself a trio of these, Astyanax fasciatus mexicanus, and thought I'd share a pic. They are really hard to photograph because they never stay still and I mean never  so please excuse the less than perfect image. And the less than perfectly clean glass  I did the research before I got them and by all accounts they're an easy fish to keep and interesting to breed. Apparently the fry are born with eyes but they disappear as the fish grow. There is no pigmentation at all. Some would say it's ugly...others, like myself, say theres no such thing as ugly  Heres a link.... http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/chara ... vefish.htm
  2. I remember that show well....thanks to the oh so lovely Barbara Eden
  3. I think you'll find these are marine fish.
  4. Thanks for the pic Rozski. :bounce: That is one awesome looking creature.
  5. Have you Googled? I found this http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/diytan ... uarium.htm HTH
  6. What about a scarecrow??....Does anyone remember Wurzil Gummidge??
  7. I own and manage a foundry. I'd rather be retired and looking after more fish......and, like Caryl, reading a good book.......
  8. Something I read on this forum......leave a hunk of dogroll in the sun and wait for the flies to arrive....use a large fish net and whammo....
  9. If its the same thing as with my Peacock, the treatment I used worked really quickly. I do think that if I left him alone it would've got better but taken longer.
  10. Hi. Does it look like this? I posted this at the time... http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/peacoc ... 24524.html He's as good as new now
  11. Same here.... I find it a pretty good camera for its price. One thing to keep in mind, whatever camera you buy, is to get extra memory. I've got a 1Gb card and I can take 294 pics at the cameras highest resolution settings.

  14. I leave the backs of my tanks uncleaned.
  15. Hi. A buddy of mine runs one of those pumps, same brand but I can't tell you what size, and the only problem he had was when he accidently dropped a towel on it and cooked it....and nearly burnt down his house in the process. The replacement pump has been running for over a year now and so far so good. The price in that auction is OK too I think. If I remember correctly my mate paid nearly 3X that, retail, but I'm not too sure if its the same size. HTH
  16. I think it should be this... :bounce: Thanks Johannes. Absolutely fascinating. Man, Cichlids are amazing animals
  17. As a kid I remember being dragged along to doctors and dentists waiting rooms or insurance company offices etc and alot of them had a tropical fish tank to try to entertain bored kiddies. I loved them. My strongest memory is of enjoying the Neon Tetras and I still have a soft spot for them....I have a school of 40 + As an adult I have made a habit of buying myself something frivolous for Christmas, one year it was an RC car, another year it was a nice acoustic guitar. Three years ago it was a fish tank and I've been buying fish tanks and related goodies ever since  I've turned 2 of my friends into fishkeepers and I'm constantly trying to get my folks to accept a free tank from me
