  3. I had an epileptic cat when I was nipper. The TV used to set it off until we had her medicated. And the dog I had until a couple of years ago was also epileptic. The glare of the sun was one of her triggers (we think) and she had to be medicated too. I doubt that the same meds would help a fish though
  4. I think you did the right thing 8) The father fans the eggs to stop fungusing and thats what you're trying to replicate with the water flow. They may be fine where they are as long as it's a net and not a plastic ''guppy trap" because they could get through the gaps in one of those. Good luck and well done. :bounce:
  5. Hi diver21. I'm currently flicking through a book 'Aquarium Care of Bettas' by David E. Boruchowitz. Quote..."The males bubblenest is a vital and distinctive part of the spawning process but males vary greatly on the details........Some nests are loose and scattered, while others are dense, rising 2.5cm or more out of the water. Large nests may almost cover the surface of the tank, while small ones may be tucked away tightly in a corner. Some males will build virtually no nest at all and still be successful........Many breeders find that something floating will soon have a nest built under it...........University investigations have shown that males prefer something that is round, about the size of a Grapefruit, and yellow in colour.......these characteristics correspond with dead leaves"....End quote HTH

    Cloudy Water

I'll let other Auckland fishkeepers answer that one. I'm in ChCh and I use no additives or chemicals at all. Our water rocks :bounce:

    Cloudy Water

I don't think you can use the carbon again. I'd chuck it anyway. I never use it......but I do have some handy if needed. I think you could easily do 50% every second day but it might be better to do 25-30% every day for a while.

    Cloudy Water

Maybe try 50% water changes for a while. I don't have cold water fish but I think the fins should grow back if they haven't gone too far back. I've seen tropical fish recover fully from fin rot. Is the carbon still in the filter? If it is, remove it. It will strip out the meds.

    Cloudy Water

Hi piggyvir. Welcome to the forums :bounce: It sounds like your tank is cycling and the cloudiness is a bacterial bloom. How often have you been doing water changes?
  12. But I bet the people in ChCh will be very grateful

    Dormant time?

Weird I've never seen my BNs do that.
  14. Thankyou 8) I could look at fish pics all day
  15. :bounce: :bounce: I have my fingers crossed for a complete recovery. Keep us posted.
  16. Hi Sandysme. You have to change the time in your profile to GMT +13
  17. Hi Jaide. Can you post a pic?
  18. I'm off to get a Kinder Surprise for breakfast.....it sounds like fun. There is a dog toy/feeder thing you can get that works on the same principle and apparently they use the same kind of thing to make captive primates do a little bit of thinking to get their food.

    BN caves

Yeah, it wasn't the best choice to make
  21. Ditto that :bounce: :bounce:
  22. If it were me I think I'd catch the fish in a net and while holding it, still in the net, I'd expose it's mouth and open it with a toothpick and try to dislodge it. Much like 'stripping' a mouthbrooder. HTH

    T5 tubes

Have you tried Organism? John usually has a fair range.
