hey all, just wanting to know what people prefer. which one is easyer to maintain? could i see some pics of you lawns im trying to deside which im going to use, i only want to use one of them but not sure which.

nah the silcone would be good for around 100c i would think, its desinged for glazzing glass which will be in the sun all day every day, alot of the glass that its used on outside will be tinted, and that get dam hot ira, i thought that that would be the case. well i still got all my skin so i spose it ok

first i think ill leave it going for a few hours and keep a close eye on the glass to see how hot it will get, havent had time to do this yet. ive just noticed that it get quite warm in the mater of 10-20min but other wise ill just lift it a bit thanks everyone

theres going to be discus, a few dwaf cichilds, corys, cardinal, and maybe some ottos. i havent had much luck with my fish not jumping, i have had tanks with lids with only the tinyist gap and had fish jump out :evil: but if its going to be cutting out to much light then i supose its going to have to be a gamble im gana have to take

losing light from the glass lids.. ok so what other alternates are there to glass lids? im not to keen on having no lids, becuase knowing my luck all my fish will jump out and also we got quite a few cats that would have the time of there life ontop "fishing" do you think that removing the lids would make much difference in plant growth? the lids or only 5mm clear? the tank is 250l with 250w MH on top?

yeah i might try raise it a bit. if i take the lids off, there is still the center brase thats getting hot. will raising it lose light? were it is now covers the tank really well. thanks for the replys

i used to have male and female cons. they bread like crazy! so i got rid of the female and just kept the male. i would just leave the babys in the main tank for as long as i could be bothered getting them out. the perents do a really good job at rasing them! i never added anything especaly for the fry i just feed the others like normal and they get all the little scraps that the other fish spit out. they can also be very hard to catch as the hide in all the small gaps in the gravel. i found the easyist way was to just syphon them out with the gravel cleaner into a bucket good luck with you babys!

i just setup my new 250w MH hanging above my tank, its about 20cm from the top of the tank. its heating up the glass lids and the glass center brase quite a lot and was worryed that it might weaken/break the lids/brasing. is this anything to worry about? what do other people do about this? maybe a little fan running accross the top of the tank?

there was some on trade me but carnt find them now must of closed, they were $60 with 8 coils and a ceramic disc. Spidersweb, does the little filter make much noise from the co2 going through the impellar.

i just looked at an old box i had lying around and it does say submersible. may be you are looking at a differenet aquaone heater?

im sure they are submersible, any way mine have been for the last 2 years

all my heaters are aquaones, basicly becuase it is the only brand that the lfs sold to just recently. i havnt had any problems with them.

to start mine(aquaone) i just fill to the top of the canister though the hole and then turn it on and open the taps and way she goes. it sounds like they are pretty much the same thing just the aquaone is cheaper.

ive got a couple of the aquaone canisters. i havent had any problems with them at all and the are so quite. i just broght a rena 1350l canister and so far i like the aquaones better, the rena is dam noisey i havent had a jebo filter so carnt comment sorry.

i use 100l bins from the warehouse. theyre only about $20 too. they also have lides and wheels. i dont have a spear heater at the moment so i just have an air stone in there. makes water changes so easy, on my big tank i change 100 a day or two. just syphon into a 100l bin wheel it to the door tip it out and pump the fresh water back in.

im not too sure either, but it think you not ment to use it cos it can leach heavy metals or something?? im sure someone will clear things up as im interested to know too, so i can use it as bio media in my sump.

im using sponge filters in two of my fry tanks and in another fry tank im using a spare hob filter with a sponge on the intake bit of it. i find that all three tanks remain clear, but the fish in the tank with the hob filter seem to grow far faster than the others. all the tanks have java moss and the same size

nah it didnt just 250w and the brand. its deffently blue tho! man i hate it when this short of stuff happens :evil: . i emailed the trader and told them, just waiting for a reply. i hope they send me the other blub other wise the light will end up costing way more by the time i buy the new bulb how much it a 6500k bulb worth? thanks for the help!

i got my new light today, a 250w MH. it was ment to come with a 13k bulb but in the action it said that it could come with a 5500k bulb if needed well i asked of the 5500k bulb for my plants, but today when it came im sure its the 13k bulb as its really blue. my question is if it was the 5500k bulb then it should be more of a yellow-white colour right?

yeah i dont use carbon, but in some of my tanks i use purgin which is sort of like carbon but beter.
