im looking at making some and just wondering what is a good starting point? im guessing that there is a start point and you adujst the mixtures to suit your tank from then on, is this correct? after reading eveils post im guessing i should start with that? i think i would rather leave out the KNO3 at first tho, is this just adding nitrate to the tank? also what is the dosing rate? what are the signs for each intrediant observed for correction in the mix? also were is somewere were i can get all the stuff for it? would switched on gardener sell it? my tank is 250l, 250w MH, co2 and ground ferts. any help would be appreciated

why dont you just go to mitre 10 and get the premade lights? i think they cheaper thn $60 and come with tubes? also check things like the buy sell swap(not sure what every other city calls it) people aways are trying to get rid of them. i got my 4foot for free from the local swithed on gardener, he had heaps out the back that he had just replaced, two new tubes $15 or something and away i went.

yeah theyre just a normal light i thought, i brought one with a few other bits secound had a few years back and its nothing specail.

yeah u could just take a chily bin, air pump and water ager for water changes. im pretty sure you can get 12v air pumps too, you could have them running in the car if your worryed.

solenoid go in the line from the bottle to the diffuser somewere, the are just a switch basicly that turns off the gass flow when they are turned off, you just plug them into the light timer so when the lights go off the co2 goes off. yeah i would been keen too if someone has some floating around to sell.

i have a flying fox and hes still quite small and hes usless, the redtailed shark in the tank eats more algae :-? i have an ar980 and have had the same problems, i changed my bulbs to the right K and also add in one extra 30w fluro under the lid bit that you feed from. also i have my pressuirsed co2 system running on there at the moment and the alage in going away pretty fast

yeah i wouldnt mine getting a steel frame for my big tank too, how much did you pay for your one Afrikan? yeah i had to put my big tank in the garage becuase the house is on a hil and built on different levels the garage was the only concrete floor :-?

yeah i hate making stands and doing the first fill. i was so scared when i made my 850l stand :-? it was over built imo tho and havnt had any problems yet (touch wood) and its been running probly 6 months now.

i would do at least 50%+ imo (with dechlorinater). there should be jack all bacteria in the water colum, and all over the filter media as thats what its there for. how did you do you fish less cycle? with fish food or liquid ammo? if the gravel has heaps of crap in it then i would do maybe a 50% gravel syphon but if its rather clean then i would leave it as there is proably bacteria on there and you dont want to desterbe to much or you end up in a little cycle again

aim for around 1 wpl, but anything from .5wpl will work. so just add up the wattages of whater lights you use
