  1. My daphnia have been going strong in a bucket outside all winter too. I also get little things that look like baby brine shrimp, bloodworms and long black worms too. Yum yum for the fish.
  2. I lost two small tanks, the only other thing in the house that we lost was a coffee mug. Pretty lucky really.
  3. Those guys know their apisto's, they'll give you a good ID.
  4. Wow, lucky you didn't refill those tanks yet! I thought my carpet was still quite wet but it's pretty dry now so I set up another tank before, quickly ran to check it was ok after that one, which it was.
  5. They were $70 a pop when I saw them in Redwoods last summer so hopefully Simian can make these a lot more common (and cheap )
  6. Yea power is down here in Ferrymead, but luckily we're on a generator so still running. Pretty exciting that's for sure!
  7. Yea it says a 6'er on geonet, but also a 4? Definitely not a 4.. I'm here at work and people across the road and in the factory's behind us have just emptied. Looks like a slow day today then..
  8. This is my damage: I knew it wasn't sturdy and just kept putting off trying to make it more stable, and I paid the price for being lazy. I was in Dunedin at the time so wasn't there for it, but my flatmate told me the rack on the left of the photo fell onto the wall on the right of the picture. There were two full tanks on the rack (the smashed one, and the one left on the rack (emptied too, huge crack down the front pane of glass)), and two empty tanks on the very top which survived thankfully. The tank at the top right of the photo was so lucky, bits of wood and glass all around it and it only has a small chip in the top (was the only tank with fish in except for one baby apisto in another tank). My other two tanks, 135L and ~80L were on a sturdy wooden desk and are absolutely fine. The stand the tanks were on was a $30 Bunnings one and is about 4ft high by 70cm by 30cm. The pic I have posted is only 640x480 on my computer so I can't email you a larger copy sorry.
  9. I've just got a heater and dehumidifier running, which have been going since yesterday afternoon. So far I've filled the dehimidifier once. It's amazing how much is coming out and yet it's still so wet.
  10. They are pretty quiet, one had a decent beginning about an hour ago, but nothing major. I've heard we're supposed to get another big one within the next couple of days..but I'm not sure how reliable that source is.
  11. I awoke at 4:45am this morning in Dunedin to my flatmate telling me my fish rack had fallen over and all tanks smashed. Got home just before and 2 tanks are completely smashed, water and sand everywhere but only lost one baby fish. I saw a photo of Jen's garage and mine is nothing compared to that..
  12. Thanks for the link, their metal halide bulbs are cheap and in the correct kelving rating for my tank
  13. The stem plant is blue hygro I think and the sword is some kind of leopard hybrid
  14. Getting some really good emersed growth: Just gotta work on 'guiding' it a bit better
  15. That looks really good Adrienne, nice job!
  16. Nice work, good to see something a bit different
  17. that would be a treat. I got a photo of it but it's not showing up on my computer :-?
  18. Wouldn't the light be under the desk for that?
  19. Great score on the tank! I like the sound of this idea with the emersed plants. That's currently what I'm doing and I really like the look.
  20. Great work Jen, they are growing real fast!
