  4. Awesome Mekhaela! Baby oscars hmm now that would be trouble!
  5. lol sorry I should clarify what I said.. There used to be 2 different fish that were similair but different.. N Pulcher - straight up and down gill marking yellowish body (IMO the nicer looking fish and a little harder to get) N Brichardi - long ways gill marking and a grey coloured body still a very nice fish and pretty common.. Recently scientists concluded that although there are differences inside the fish are the same and the 2 colours are just geographical changes and they are all in fact N Pulcher, I don't think its been changed yet.. It is a good idea to only breed the yellow's with the yellow's and the grey's with the grey's so neither is diluted and they will happily breed with each other..
  6. Should be easy to sex at that size.. can you put up pics of them? Any pink belly's or fat ones yet?

It will be in german degree's because hagen is a german kit Heres what you should be aiming for.. "lake Malawi's pH ranges from 7.8 to 8.6, with a total hardness of 4.0-6.0 dH. The reason for the variation is caused by the level of Carbon Dioxide dissolved in the water. In areas with turbulent water, where the water is better aerated, the pH is higher, while in calm bays, the level of dissolved Carbon Dioxide is higher; consequently, the pH is lower there. Surface temperature ranges from 76 to 85 degrees, while the temperature at lower levels of the lake remain at a constant 70 degrees. Carbonate hardness ranges from 6.0 to 8.0." Taken from http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/l ... africa.php Obviously it can be within those ranges as fish can adjust but these are ideal..

yeah KH and GH are measured with drops of the test stuff.. But I cant remember what one drop equals for the hagen on

Ph is my tank is 8, I cant measure GH the only test set I have the instructions for must have expired because I add more heaps of drops and the water doesn't change colour.. If anyone has the instructions for the hagen GH test set I can tell you, I add 7 drops of the stuff but unsure if its in ppm or degree's or what.. Just post on here what you get and we can let you know if its ok

Sweet well id measure it and see what it is africans do like hard alkaline water You may need to add something or buffer your water using baking soda and epsons salt to get it up a bit or it maybe sweet..

What is pea metal? Is that just pea sized gravel? Africans like to dig most people use the coral sand and that because it buffers the water but they will happily live with gravel they will move it if they have to There are other ways of buffering the water if you need too.. As for water specs you want a high ph and hard water, have you measured either? I cant tell you what it is in my tanks because I don't measure it everything is happily breeding and haven't had any reason to doubt its a problem.. Have you decided what fish your going to add?
  12. Sweet was trying to figure out if you had the old pulcher or brichardi.. Does the black mark on the gill plates go straight up and down (old pulcher) or long ways (old brichardi) of course to add to confusion they're both now called pulcher but to me are different fish
  13. Sounds good Are their bodies grey or yellow?

Heres some pics they are pretty crapy don't usually tank whole tank shots they don't seem to work out, I don't have the patience tonight to get any better ones lol, and my stand is ruined so yeah not too flash at the moment, I've been buying up rimu to make a new one so yeah when I find the time.. If you want to know what any fish are just ask I don't have a stocking list for this tank theres too many fish in it and I keep forgetting half of them when I try and list it..
  15. Nice fish man.. How much you selling them for?
  16. If they can handle the PH they will be sweet man.. I think hoplo's are predator's though and your dem's are pretty small at this stage.. Should make for an cool looking tank though!

I think its the way you should go But its not my tank! lol Its upto you.. As I said 12 is the min demasoni's you should go.. For the peacocks your probably best to stick with one type and get 5-6 of them so that when they grow up and breed they will be pure.... And a hald full of yellows. How big is your tank (measurements) and what sort of filtration is there? That limits the amount of smaller fish you can keep.. I will take some pics later for you, its too bright in my kitchen where my main display tank is and the light keeps reflecting off the tank and all you can see is glare, lol went in there to take a pic and watched another demasoni breed  got 4 females holding and 12 free swimming babies at the moment..
  20. I will probably keep the lot of babies I have on and sell them, unsure when or what as, I have sold some previously and they're around an inch they're with cichlidmad in wanganui so how they colour up will be the deciding factor, if they colour up like the dad then they're some sort of pure strain im picking mailieri, as this male is the dead ringer of the other mailieri I have just different shade of orange instead of a red colour.. These fish are currently in quarter of a 4ft tank (its divided) theres 1M and 3F in there, and also a male demasoni that im selling all was going well until I added the demasoni he seems to pick on them all even the male despite the fact that the male is like twice the size of him!
  21. lol yeah it will happen the one time you don't have the time for it! Since my daughter was born a few weeks ago it seems every single fish has been breeding, have been sneaking out to the fish room to take care of them and getting in trouble with the wife  Let us know how you get on with contacting Phil
