  1. I didn't notice that when I was there it was a while ago that I was last there though.. Tropheus do you have that line of kadango's going still? peanuts2110 is is relatively common to worm fish and I would say internal parasites are very common and cause alot of problems with fish. Signs that fish need worming are white stringy poo's, fish that just wont fill out or grow no matter how much you feed them, and in the later stages the fish just wastes away to nothing. I worm new fish before they go into my tanks and have made up a food with wormer in it that I feed out occasionally to keep on top of things. It makes a huge difference to your fish.
  2. Yeah this tank is very impressive! There have been threads on it here before love those giraffes and kadango's
  3. I think the problem with Angels is hex.. And im sure you can treat that with metro or prazi cant remember which one, you could catch all your cardinals and treat them with either for a week to be sure, or just treat your angels and cardinals together.. I don't know if all angels have it or if angels just commonly get it and still live but theoretically you should be able to treat it..
  4. lol I haven't brought much from there they only seem to do commons.. Going there today on the off chance, they did have some badis in there the other day..
  5. Yeah it is worth a look.. They aren't ordering any fish in for a few weeks though and it does tend to get a bit bland.. However it is my LFS so guess you get that They have some wicked display tanks, and most their fish are healthy also all their tanks are awesome all laid out nice and clean also. If your calling through bulls call through and say hi
  6. Yeah you should be alright you don't want to add the filter first because if theres nothing for the bacteria to feed on it they will die off.. A week probably isn't long enough to get alot of bacteria going but I assume your not sticking many fish in there?
  7. lol its a shame you wont be tramping around it.. We only got half way before we all got evacuated with food poisoning etc, guess we should have used the purification tablets provided..
  8. So your planning to stick yellows in with your kissing gourami, RTS, bristlenoses and cories? It could work I don't know how the cories would fare most likely ok as the yellows wont bother them they're so different.. Its a rather unorthodox mix thats for sure, I have seen similar ones work and had people buy fish of me to stick them with similar.. However everyone who has come out and seen what a full african setup looks like has come back and got more africans and gone that way separated all their others out into smaller tanks or sold them I think the fish do alot better when kept with compatible tank mates. Also regarding the trademe auction the mods here are very tough on any contact or anything regarding trademe auctions on here so everything has to go through trademe.
  9. If you want colour and action go full african with your tank
  10. Check our private trade and exchange I think this one is for sale, and also someone else listed some new ones in the last few days for sale.
  11. waikerimoana is nice, we tramped around it once and got some sort of nasty food poisoning (was laid out for a week) from one of the the huts though so boil the water/use water purification tablets
  12. Im pretty sure you might actually get away with adding lionheads to your tank.. I have seen them with all sorts really, I keep mine with malawi's as do a few others I know and they seem to handle themselves alright.. But have seen them in fully planted species tanks, im unsure how they would go aggression wise with you fish though..
  13. Yeah I think the main things were keeping the tanks blacked out, getting the right water to start with and feeding/maintaining the babies tank when they were younger so you don't loose heaps.. Good luck though and fill everyone in on your progress if you do it, it would be good to see people breeding them locally, I have heard they are all wild caught stock that gets imported which is why they're expensive.. Unsure if thats true though..
  14. Blue rams would be good Could also do Kribs, gourami's or larger schooling fish - rainbow's, congo tetra's or bigger schooling danio's.. As you pointed out the angel is your deciding factor he will most likely eat platties, guppies and most tetra's.. Some people have success keeping them together others don't.. Depends how much you want to risk it really.. Good luck and post some pics when your done
  15. They have been bred in NZ and there is an article on the fnzas site (not the forums, drop the "fishroom" off the address in your bar and you'll find it) I too was considering trying them but they seem like alot of work and im don't have the time at the moment.. Maybe one day though
  16. Yeah your tank and stand look great Agreed on the rainbow.. Sounds like your up for a tank upgrade already depending on what type of pleco you have and the fact that clown loaches like to be in groups and also can grow to 30cm's (they take a while to get that big though..).
  17. lol fair enough man It is easy surely you've had fish shipped to you by now?
  18. You might be best and cheapest to got Chch have found small towns very expensive.. And yeah best bet is to goto glaziers or hope to find a second hand one somewhere..
  19. Glad to hear it Steve Are you going to have more time to ship me some fish! lol
  20. Wow they're awesome.. Where did you get them from?
  21. I go through alot of food.. Usually have to buy 2 containers a month so yeah 2.7kg will hopefully last me half a year or so, when all 17 tanks are setup could imagine food going pretty quick.. Will pm you too...
  22. I think they are saying this they put out as much light as a 100W normal incandescent, but they will be a different spectrum (as others have pointed out) and not actually 400W of lighting for 80W of power usage, its still only 80W you cant have something for nothing..
  23. Looking good man What sort of insulation/heating are you using? And do you have anything on the floor to stop the concrete loosing heat? The only reason I ask is im still fine tuning my fishroom.. I think I need some of those metal stands could fit alot more tanks..
  24. Yeah NLS sounds like its the best thats for sure.. I have a 2.7kg bucket on order
