  1. Awesome good luck! I haven't had any luck finding them so your doing well.. Hopefully he doesn't shread your 2 females Glad you managed to get the tropheus you wanted Sorry to hear some didn't make it hopefully you can get what you have going..
  2. lol exactly what I was thinking what vic's do you have? There isn't much around..
  3. Sorry to hear about your looses with the courier, its gutting that they screw up when you really need them not to, generally they're pretty good, what courier was used?
  4. Im not in Auckland but have 2 awesome hi-fin/lytail females, all the males bits were deformed so I got a normal male, I plan to breed the babies back to the females and see if I can get a descent split of long finned babies..
  5. Sajica are in NZ they're cool fish hoping to get some eventually
  6. It depends what you can source down there. Dem's have a min of 12 yellows as many as you want and I would recommend a single male or half a dozen peacocks thinning out to 1male and as many females as you can get.. It all depends on your filtration etc.. I am assuming your tank is a standard long 160L not one of those tall ones?
  7. this http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/my-fir ... 27286.html or this http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/royal- ... 30726.html is my suggestion
  8. You could do dem's, yellows and some peacocks (one strain) Or you could go down the tang road, some jullies/lelupi/brichardi/pulchers..
  9. Most thermostat systems are very simple.. I guess it depends where it is broken and if you can source new parts to fix it?
  10. Really sorry to hear about this Navarre (Mod = Warren: Do not use real names) I hate loosing fish especially ones you have been growing out for ages and have just started to breed for you.. Hopefull you can replace what you have lost.
  11. I should also add that the tank looks really good a nice mix of fish and colours etc, don't worry too much about the open spaces for peacocks mine don't seem to mind some rockwork and it gives females a place to hide if the male gets agro
  12. Yeah thats what I would call a royal blue IT can be very hard with common names especially with what comes through the importers..
  13. Fish look good have you got a full tank shot? People call royal blues red shoulders the fish that I call a royal blue is blue all over no other colour in the body at all (similar to chilumba but different body shape). Where did your royal blues come from?

    Blue Acara

I would say they should be ok, however keep a close eye on them and make sure you have a divider or spare tank handy just in case the male takes to the female..
  15. Get a divider cut that fits length wise (use some hose cut lengthwise to take up any gaps if needed.. Make sure you leave a small gap at the bottom maybe 2cm's or so put the divider in and bury the hole the water will still be able to flow through the gravel however you need an external or something that sucks in one end and flows out the other end to get the water to flow..
  16. My recomendation would be to breed them and keep at least one batch of babies asap don't give them a chance to raise them, I tired patiently with mine and ended up loosing the parents before I raised a spawn because they kept eating them etc..
  17. I have looked at these pics again and I do think that maybe they are a little too slender for the hansbeanshi type fish.. This maybe the photo's or just me what do others think?
  18. All of my blues either died with increased resperation or what resembles tumours (maybe hole in the head? But water quality wasn't bad) on the head that grew, for the first 2 weeks or so they looked fine but eventually passed on I hope that isn't what has happened to yours? Any chance of a pic?
  19. LOL Are these bred by "the lurker" you talked about who doesn't want to join? Looks like he breeds good fish and should join and introduce himself (hopefully he lurks on here). I see where the confusion with the chilumba's came in. I haven't heard red shoulders being called chilumba's however if you look through the list then you will see that stuartgranti has a varient called chilumba so maybe it caused some confusion? Or they could have been brought in as red shoulder chilumba 8-10 maybe even more years ago and have had a few renames since then I wasn't keeping africans back then and have no idea, lol chances are in another 8-10 years it will be called something else but the fish wont have changed. Bottom line is if they've been kept seperate and this line has been bred true for 8 years its all good and to me they look pure and what I would call a red shoulder im sure others will offer advice. Nice looking fish I hope you breed them and spread them around advertise them on here when you do I wouldn't mind some
  20. Yep id go with red shoulder also.. Used to be called A. hansbaenschi but has been reclassified as a locational varient of stuartgranti see the list here. There are plenty called red shoulder http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/c ... .php?cat=3 Are they all the same type? And did you get them from a good source etc? They all look good 2 males seem to have coloured up well and females all appear the same shape well as much as you can tell from the pics anyway
  21. I think the green is what is used in the white spot cure, what strength is it? I haven't used that stuff for years but im sure someone will know! I always get rid of the whitespot by adding rock salt to the tank, I believe the salt is alot better because it is natural, doesn't harm the filter and you don't really even have to add charcoal or worry too much about getting it out, also it doesn't stain the silicon
  22. That sucks! Sorry to hear I thought they were recent pics
  23. I am just wondering for my own curiosities sake if mollies and platties can cross breed? I thought that mollies and guppies can cross and swords and platties can cross because they were the same families. I have tried to search the net some say the above and some say they can.. It is purely for curiosities sake maybe someone on here has some factual reports of it happening etc..
  24. I meant to ask if you still had them Looking good!
  25. that tank looks wicked love the rock work etc
