  1. Yeah I was going to say be careful adding a heap of stuff into your tank just in case you make a nasty mix and kill them all.. Hopefully you find the right thing to stop the deaths.
  2. Cool tank.. Meth blue applied directly to that eye daily should clear it up I have had no luck achieving anything except for staining the crap out of everything applying meth blue directly to tank water, I think you need a stronger anti-fungal agent.
  3. Man that sucks do you have any idea what happened? This must have been an awesome tank do you have any pics of it in its prime?
  4. Yeah would probably be fine as that article said 125gal min I would just go bigger each to their own They don't take long to get upto 20cms and get really flighty would hate to see a 20cm front bouncing off the walls lol. It would also be very hard to just go out and buy a male and a few females you would have to start off with a heap of babies and thin them out as they grow. I have heard alot of suggestions not to keep the dominant male as they can get too agro and kill off the females but haven't done it myself so don't really know. You can't go wrong with an african tank, there are plenty of others that are very easy to keep and breed and you could do an awesome display in a 4-5ft tank..
  5. Driftwood from the sea that has absorbed salt etc is best because the salt should have killed any freshwater weeds or bugs that may take over your tank and might kill your fish.. Soak the wood for a while if your really concerned but I just hose it and chuck it in, a little salt wont hurt guppies at all. Blue guppies that I have are neon blue tuxedo but I think there are different strains around as well, nice fish that's for sure and growing real fast on decap etc
  6. Man thats gutting sorry to hear about it I lost 2 of my fav fish yesterday too gutting man.. Both jumped out when I had lids on the tanks and haven't had a fish jump in over a year to loose 2 favs in one day sucks Meth blue applied directly to the angels eyes may help it come right, I have managed to fix my africans eyes like that, mind you they had scraped themselves on rocks yours seems different.. I hope you get on top of it there is nothing worse than loosing a bunch of fish and not knowing what went wrong..
  7. 6 x 2 x 2ft + for a colony of adults.. Having seen the original breeders make a 1000L 8 x 3 x 3ft tank look small I wouldn't do them in anything less than a 6fter once they put on some size, your 4ft would only be a grow out for a while.. I have a 5 x 2 x 2 here that I considered for it but IMO its too small for anything but one male in a mixed tank really Heres some reading.. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/c_frontosa.php http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/f ... corner.php I see that the article recommends a 125gallon for a colony of 10 adults so a 5 x 2 x 2 would do according to that..
  8. That's a good price.. The cheapest I saw them was $30ea at 2cms long, rumour has it they were selling for $110 in HFF shops but I haven't been up there for ages.. Bear in mind that there are now a whole heap of colonies nearing breeding age that were sold 3-4 years ago as babies and soon enough they will be easy to find all over the country side with the price falling if people choose to breed them. Awesome fish though hope to get some one day but don't have any tanks big enough for them
  9. I have never seen angels eat plants.. When I kept them they were so fussy they refused to eat spirilina flake.. However yours maybe different, are you sure they are not just pecking at the plants eating random stuff off them or even cleaning the plants to breed?
  10. Yeah dave+amy that sucks Sorry to hear about your bike, its a real shame that nothing is safe these days.. Keep an eye out for it and on your other property, and hopefully the police/insurance company come to the party.. Make sure it doesn't ruin your christmas there are still some good people out there and family is more important
  11. Merry Christmas to you too B and to everyone else on here It has been good to get to know new people and learn lots on here for another year.. Thanks for your help this year too Nav your a legend it has been good to get to know you
  12. You will still be able to breed some awesome guppies and add some different ones to get random babies pop out its always cool to see what happens.. If they are healthy petshops and people will buy them they are getting harder to get with alot of the ones in petshops looking like crap being expensive and just dying So there is no reason why you wont be able to pay for some food and maybe some more fish occasionally from breeding your guppies.. There are neon blue tux guppies around I have a pair and they are breeding like mad will eventually have some for sale if you wanted to add them to your mix to try and get some blues popping out.. Merry christmas to you too
  13. You have some nice looking guppies there.. I think the main thing with people paying good $$'s for them is when they are paying for pure strains.. You may well get some nice ones come out of randoms but its getting them to breed true that takes time, many tanks and lots of work.. It is an awesome project to try and get a pure strain but yeah just takes the time and money to get there..
  14. lol yeah I have seen this mention of a few new big fish in another thread now this is just a tease
  15. Gutted sounds like you've been having a hard time of it recently You're not the only one ive been having disasters left right and center as well... And I did the same thing flooded the fishroom and cant lift the carpet and underlay now it has a lovely cat pee smell (cats haven't pee'd in there but the wet carpet smells like that..). At least it is only wet carpet and it will dry and all will be fine

    Adtape

Dosage rate for liquid prazi is 5ml per 40L.. Treat on day 1, day 3 and day 6 with water changes is what I was told by a discus breeder You might be able to drop your water level to make it go a little further as its like liquid gold..

Awesome I'm glad they bred for you Good luck raising and rehoming all the babies, at the very least its good food for the africans..
  18. Sorry to hear about your fish.. I have some Doxycycline here that is an antibiotic unsure if it will work on your fish but your welcome to have a couple of tabs for free if you can get out and get it.. Personally because its for bacterial infections I think it would be worth a go, the tabs I have are 100mg so going by the below info one should do 40 gallons.. Doxycycline Hyclate 50 mg. Capsules Broad spectrum antibiotic derived from Oxtetracycline, it works on most bacterial infections. It does not become inactivated by calcium, iron or other heavy metals. One treatment is all that is generally required. 1 capsule per 20 gallons of water.
  19. While it may resemble an afra in appearance comparing your fish to an internet photo is not a definative identification of him.. It wont matter what you call him unless you sell him or breed from him and just plan to breed from him, but without knowing the fishes parentage or at least what it was imported/sold as it should probably stay unidentified.. I agree it is a nice fish and resembles an afra but you don't know if it is just a cross with some afra in its past that managed to throw back and look pure. Without knowing who bred it or what it was imported as (even though this is often dodgy at best as well) you will never know, it is the thing that makes africans so hard.. I have some of the afra strain that are in NZ this is what they look like I haven't seen any around that look like your one that doesn't mean they aren't around though.
  20. I think it would work out pretty expensive the ground under the pond would suck the heat out at night.. Might be better to just chuck a big tank outside and line it with poly unless you stick some pond liner on something insulating? The fish you are talking about are probably hardy enough to survive overnight, maybe if you wanted it as a precaution you could set it to 20 to make sure it didn't drop real low in a cold snap?
  21. They could but I doubt the result would look like that fish.. The ultimate question is where the fish came from and what they were brought as.. Could just be a cross that came out cool randomly..
  22. lol Have to actually fire them to confident willing and able to fire them in anger, ammo is pretty hard to get usually but sometimes has to be used up as it gets older etc.. Emblem is the Timor Leste stabalisation force which is what we were a member of when we were in Timor..
  23. Airsoft does sound cool Shooting stuff is awesome just to go out and have a blast Recently got to fire this This is me.. And of course get to fire this every so often..
  24. Not really too sure and im not that flash with ids but its not a demasoni.. It is a very nice looking fish, could be an afra or some sort of zebra.. I guess it depends where it came from and what it was sold to you as? How big is he?
  25. Id drop the water level to 40L if I could then you have 5 treatments.. With the daily water changes while you are treating then it will be enough to keep the water quality up, if your worried cut back on food etc while you only have 40L in the tank. I recently treated a 120 x 45 x 45cm tank and only had 9cm of water in the bottom (modified the filter intake and stuck the heater to the bottom) just to save on drugs..
