  1. I have 2 spawns both sepeated from the parents only 44 combined in the same tank now, they are very slow growing at the moment, on decap and microworms and some of the bigger ones can eat grindal worms too. Lost my male because he jumped but hoping to get another at some stage soon
  2. Yeah have met many a person on the side of the road got a big white box given them some $$'s and driven off before.. Sometimes wonder what people driving past think. Seems this is going to be surrounded in confusion
  3. Is this the discus tank from your other thread? If so the discus like it 28-30 so set the heater higher to keep it constant.. Otherwise elevating the lights above the tank would help get some airflow above them (as (Curtur suggested). As for the algae, I wouldn't stress about it too much maybe leave 2 tubes on and let things settle. Has this tank been setup and is it fully cycled etc? (hoping so because it is overcrowded already and wont take much to kill your discus although 50% daily water changes will help alot) Adding new plants wont instantly get rid of the algae, the plants have to get established soak up the nutrients and the algae has to starve and die off, it might take a while to happen. Are you overfeeding at all? Have you tested your water for phosphates or nitrates?
  4. lol maybe those interested could email him/her.. I am interested in the intention here too
  5. They look awesome congrats Did they come from the guru too? No point in putting fish like these in tiny tanks they are majestic and need a big tank to be happy in and cruise around in
  6. Sounds good, good luck! Sorry can't help with any art work I don't have an artistic bone in my body, but there are plenty of talented people on here I am sure you fill find heaps..
  7. Congrats on the pairing are you going to try and breed them? I don't have any idea as I haven't bred them myself but from memory orange x blue discus produce really ugly coloured fry I am sure Ron could clear that up?
  8. How big are all the fish? There is probably no need to get rid of anything if they're young it will be a matter of years before the giraffes could possibly eat the dems.. Just let everything grow and keep an eye on them if it fits in the giraffes mouth it could end up as food.
  9. There are albino zebras they're relatively common seem to pop up on the list and shops occasionally have seen them in a few people tanks and a few people breeding them but haven't seen many on trademe or anything so that is weird?
  10. I have a similar setup but cut the corner off each divider and stuck stainless fly screen on each side, have the filter intake at one end and outlet at the other so the water has to flow through each segment.

    Greetings

That's not a cure for MTS that is a prompt to setup somewhere where your burst fishtanks wont screw the house ie a fishroom or somewhere with concrete floors then you can have more tanks
  12. Personally I would say you have them too hot if your "turning the temp down to 24".. WCMM's like it pretty cold and don't really do too well in full tropical tanks, I would turn off your heater let the temp do what it wants during summer (maybe a heater set at 18 for winter so they don't get too cold) do heaps of water changes good food and they should breed. Also the fry are friggen tiny do you know what you are looking for?
  13. Can probably do this for you pm me some details
  14. Here's the thread you might be thinking about with the links in it viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6979

    Boyu pumps

Hmm different to my one.. I have a 70LPH boyu one and recently got a diaphram for it but had to get a hailea one (store manager rung brooklands boss and asked him which one to use..). I have heard of people using inner tubing or going to para rubber type stores and buying rubber and cutting their own but haven't tried this myself, my attempt with using heavy duty plastic bag material kinda worked. Good luck, otherwise tough tanks stock boyu pumps and maybe able to get parts for them..
  16. Just like any other colour strain of guppies/platties/swords these ones are called pineapple swordtails.. http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q= ... arch&meta=

    Blue Ram???

As phoenix said bolivian butterfly rams and blue rams are different species although they belong to the same genus.. However I wouldn't be surprised if you did enough googling you would find blue rams called butterfly rams on various sites.. It is the problem with using common names they differ from person to person and from country to country. The difference should be very obvious if you were looking at them in a store bolivians are usually bigger and have nowhere near the iridescent colours of the blue rams still a very nice fish and alot hardier than blue rams.

Sorry to hear about your loss Internal parasites don't seem to just cause fish to just keel over and die.. Generally internal parasites cause the fish to get run down, they will gradually loose colour, loose appetite, start fading away, just be lethargic, have white stringy poo's, red worms out bum etc. Of course there are exceptions to this but I would expect you to have seen something going wrong. The only way to tell for sure is to do an autopsy, the problem is knowing what you are doing and knowing what your actually looking at and what it should look like, so unless its something obvious it probably wont achieve anything. The most annoying thing with fish is not knowing what killed them sometimes they just die with no warning, keep an eye on your other fish and if you see any problems that would suggest parasites then deal with it then.
  19. Sounds like a good setup and maintenance schedule.. You don't need to clean the rocks or gravel vac every time you do a water change.. No need to clean the media until flow rate has decreased would think it would have after 2 and a half months however depends on the age of your fish.. Things that may cause problems for you IMO. 10 demasoni, most people recommend 12 for aggression reasons and I have had bad luck keeping them with any less than 12 as well.. However depending your male/female ratio you maybe alright I know one person who breeds them as a pair however I would say its risky. Your giraffes may eventually get big enough to eat the demasoni, this is a long term thing but giraffes are big haps and naturally predators and the smaller demasoni may appear as a meal to them. I know it is one consideration that I have made with my tank and removed my demasoni however they maybe quick enough to get out of the way it was a risk that I wasn't going to take. Also bear in mind nutritionally that demasoni are purely vegetarians so you should be feeding a vege based flake. Good luck and I'm glad to hear the yellow recovered.
  20. Id say 2 fish in a 40L (assuming small fish) not overfed with regular maintenance etc will be fine if you turn the filter off overnight... I have transported fish upto 24 hours with filters etc switched off that long turned them on and not had a single loss, the filter will still be immersed in the tank water so bacteria should live, obviously running 24/7 is the most ideal but I think it would be fine.
  21. Nice fish and good work I am so jealous of anyone who can raise ram babies, even keeping the blue or gold rams alive is enough of a challenge for me
  22. Yeah I was curious to know the tank size and also what tests if any were done.. But hasn't been answered yet.. My concern would be the fish he has they are all known to be quite agro and especially if you have low numbers.. Would suspect the poor yellow being pretty laid back as yellows are got a hard time and got stressed to death

    Grazed Kuhli

Yeah it is alot cheaper, although the anti caking agent and other stuff hasn't been proven to be bad I probably wouldn't go and add normal table salt.. Pak N Save Palmy have it in the baking section that's where I get mine from, its a fairly common baking ingredient so would be surprised if all supermarkets didn't stock it Good luck and hope the fish is ok
