You can set up a "normal aquarium" or if you add strong light, CO2, added fertilizers you will need all three. There is no point in using only one or two of the three. There are a number of suitable substrates out there to provide micronutrients to your plants and I have not used frourite so can't advise there. I prefer to use sand rather than gravel and have done for many years. It is all a matter of personal preference realy.

I have never seen bag corners taped. You get the same effect by carrying the bag upside down. We always used to freight bags of fish upside down.

The common frogs in Christchurch are the southern bells and whistlers. They are both tree frogs and don't like it too hot. The green and gold bell frogs (including the albino variety) are only found in the wild in the north of the north island and are the ones I have and need to be heated. The tadpoles in my experience do best in rainwater and like to graze on algae. I fed mine on flake fish food and brine shrimp nuplii. I lost a few tadpoles until I was advised and changed to rainwater. The only frogs I have lost are the ones that got eaten by their siblings.

I have painted poly with black water based acrylic paint and it was OK. I don't think aquarium silicone can be painted but there shouldn't be any on the outside of the tank.

It makes sure there is an even pressure on the base of the tank. A little piece of grit under the tank will make a point of extreme pressure and break the tank base but it will be absorbed into the poly and not cause a problem.

You can put wheels on a stand but if it moved you would have water all over the place. It also means that the weight is coming down onto a very small area and would not be too good on a large tank sitting on an old timber floor. All my tanks are designed with stands that distribute the total weight over the whole footprint as much as possible.

You buy the product that is for glueing glass and has suitable for aquariums on the label. I buy Selleys because it is the cheapest where I shop but there will be others. It will be cheaper in a cartridge than a tube and also from a hardware store rather than a pet shop.

Tonic has enough stuff in it ( meth blue, malachite green, acriflavine & quinine. All of which can treat whitespot to a greater or lesser degree) without adding formalin. The actual white spots are resistant to treatment and raising the temperature speeds up the life cycle of the parasite.

There is a ranunculus that we used to hook out of the river and sell to the discerning residents of Auckland 30 years ago but it was always in the submersed form. A lot of the symptoms of nutrient deficiency are similar to what you describeso it is hard to tell which is missing. Using ferts for a while without overdoing it will show if the problem goes away and you should still avoid algae problems.

They made mine up to the footprint and wattage I requested and the wires were all encased in foil like an electric blanket. Works well.

I saw that also but didn't know that was how it was heated. I have two tanks heated with undertank heaters made by Argosy with thermostats by love from Homershams. One is divided int 6 bare bottom breeding tanks and the other with about 40mm of sand for growing plants. The thermostat has a hysteresis of 1 deg C but the temperature range is way more than that because of the insulating effect of the sand. You would need to not add too much gravel/sand and keep it spread evenly rather than landscaped or you will get different heats and therefore expansion/contraction on the base glass and risk breakage. Mine both work well.

When you start getting a lot of difference in size it pays to seperate them into similar sizes or you will get the smller ones thinned out.
