  1. i had "option 2" running a second tank, worked fine. i just tee'd off my main return, and plumbed 2nd tank overflow into the sump.
  2. just read an article about kelvin rating of MH bulbs. http://www.pets-warehouse.com/AquariumlitFaq.htm one suggestion made was that different k bulbs produce the same amount of useful radiation for corals, and that for example 10k look brighter to us than 14 or 20 because our eyes are more sensitive to the red end of the light spectrum. does anyone know / have links to experiments on growth under different k bulbs? i was under the impression that whiter bulbs produced more useful light for corals...
  3. nah about 1.5 cups of carbon, about 3-4 weeks old. about 800L of water all up
  4. water ok, changed 200L 2 weeks ago
  5. my clown feeds it pieces of shrimp, mussels etc. i will put it in more flow and up a bit higher i think
  6. my clarkii clown will take food to the anemone and feed it you could try skewering the food for the anemone and putting it in like that - the anemone should grab the food.
  7. my LTA seems to be a bit crook at the mo, is shrinking a fair bit, and losing colour, then coming back to full size randomly over the day. it is usually about 30-35cm across fully extended, but when it shrinks it is down to about 10cm across. any ideas? rest of tank seems fine, although i am suspicious that some of the other corals are a bit whiter than usual.... at what point should i remove it from the tank? i can set up qt tank if necessary. Steve didn't your anemone look a bit crook before it split? before after rest of tank
  8. what dosing pumps are people using? any recommendations on a specific one to get to feed CA reactor? haven't managed to find any retail here, may have to get one brought in. anyone got one for sale?
  9. ~$250 each from bunnings, install em yourself sounds expensive, but remember they use no power. if i wasnt 2-storey with my tank on ground level i would have done it ages ago. the silver tubes are a nice touch. in nz i think you would need supplimental lighting, at least over winter

    DSB

im thinking of doing the same thing, using a small glass tank in the sump with sand it it. i wanna be able to see a cross section of it so glass would be the one as opposed to doing it in a container. doesnt a dsb have to be at least 6 inches deep to work properly?

    KP's Tank Build

they are pretty quiet, but there must be some noise generated by the air gettin sucked in.... alot of the noise from my durso was the water entering the sump, if you have a sumproom this is where most of the noise will be. mine is under the display, so was noisy as

    KP's Tank Build

heres what i have. its pretty much idiot proof. it is a ball-valve controlled standpipe with a seperate tank fitting up near the top of the overflow. if the main syphon is restricted, any excess will go down the secondary line and into the sump. the water usually runs under the second line so nothing can get into it under normal conditions to block it. the second line can handle the entire volume of water coming from the return pump on its own. scuse the pic but you get the idea http://blowfish.co.nz/overflow.JPG Pic to big, changed to URL, please keep under 100KB
  16. mine sits at anywhere between 23.5 -25.5 in winter and 26-29 in summer. less when the fkn power goes out in auckland
  17. goes in cold. ever been swimming in the sea? there are cold and warm spots that shift around, the critters can handle it no worries, usually its only 10-25% anyway, so only shifts by a couple or 3 deg at the most
