si_sphinx
So its time to start this thread as its been a long time coming. A bit of work has been done last weekend, moving this tank into its new position in my lounge. Thanks to those who helped  This tank use to be my planted tank. I have been working on it since getting rid of the last of my plecs on Saturday, cleaning and waterproofing beneath the stand to prevent future floods, painting the back of the tank blue. Re-plumbing the return pipes, valves etc. I have been cycling the rock in a drum since mid November so It should hopefully make cycling the tank easier. Old open fireplace removed and space prepared for the tank Tank in place and painted Coral Rock cleaned Rock in drum to cycle More photos will come as more progress is made :cofn:
Godly3vil
I find myself being really excited about how this tank will turn out after seeing the planted tank that it was, going to look awesome.

si_sphinx
Removed all the partitions from the sump and rearranged them as needed. Just need to remove the end panel and replace it with a drilled piece for overflow and return pump.

si_sphinx
I have done a freshwater test with the whole system and found I need to redo the layout of the sump to prevent micro bubbles returning to the display tank. The MD55 return pump I have used is very quiet, I just need to reduce vibrations through the stand to make it quieter.
si_sphinx
This new sump design should hopefully work out a lot better. Here are the plans I have CAD drawn up tonight so I can cut the glass the correct sizes.
reef
Loc line fittings are far to small for the tank size, they will reduce your flow.
si_sphinx
Good point. I have a 4200lph pump on it. I haven't tried it with the loc-line fittings yet. They are 1/2' fittings and I have 2 outlets, I can add another 2 outlets if it is restricted too much. Or maybe I could tee off the return and have the loc-line off one and open off another? Your thoughts?
reef
I have a 4200lph pump on it. That will likely reduce to well under 3000LPH. I have always used the 25mm pressure plumbing and it has always worked well.
si_sphinx
That is what I am using. I just wanted to take advantage of the incoming flow and use it to point where I want it. I will also have 2x MP40w wavemakers in the tank too.
si_sphinx
Went and collect 600ltrs of NSW today. High tide was 7am so was up early. It takes 1/2hr to get to the beach (25kms) takes 15mins to fill my 200ltr drum then 1/2hr home again. I finished at 12 noon. It was a very windy and rough morning at tiwai. I am still waiting for the tank to heat up so in the mean time I put in the sump with its new layout and filled it with ASW. Filled the refugium with Sand and coral rubble. When the tank is up to temp I will add all my pre-cycled rock and get the water levels up to start the return pump. I still have to raise the skimmer to get the water level in the right place for it. blueether
Sounds good, but you need to get an IBC or a few more drums. But then after it's full you wont need to collect that much water again.
si_sphinx
:iag: I am going to get an IBC eventually. Just gotta find somewhere to keep it first. Then I will have 1400ltrs of storage for water changes.
si_sphinx
I got all the rock in there and then stacked it up. I couldn't really see when scaping the rock because of the murky water. I'm not very happy with it so will keep playing around with it until I get it right. SamH
I'm no good with anything marine but as far as aquascaping goes, you could try putting your focal point 1/3 the way across the tank. I'm guessing this is the gap between the rock piles? Could look more appealing, couldn't hurt to try
