as per title i got a tank made, measured between the windows where itd be sitting so went 2.1m by 600 by 600.. then thought oh na i want it 700 high instead of 600 they said if i was to go over 600 id need 12mm sides so said no just keep it 600 then, then they said we can do 750 wide an 600 high for the same price so said yea alright will go with that.. they rung the guy to make sure he hadnt orderd the glass an then told him so thats all sweet. we made a stand to suit a tank being 2.1 x 750 x 600 as to the plan, finally got my tank after ages waiting for him 2 sort the glass an turns up with it being 600 wide so doesnt suit what my stand is like. said is that only 600 wide an he said thats what you orderd isnt it an said no.. so now im stuck with a tank that doesnt suit the stand itd be a big job to sort the stand out but really its their mistake!? an + theyv made it 650 high instead of 600 but yet he said if i was to go anymore than 600 id need 12mm sides.

an also he tryed telling me he couldnt get any 12mm for the base so did it in 15mm but just checked an its 12mm.

the silicon is pretty ruff considering its ment to be a brand new tank. so what can i do guys?

oyea thats one thing could do. im going to go in their all calm state all the bad points an see what their going to do.

i mean they didnt know where it was going i couldve had it in a in built wall for he knew an he turns up with a tank wrong measurments it would be stuffed im going to ask to see the paperwork for it because i know i used to have a recipt with the measurements saying 2.1 x 750 x 600 but all going to plan i didnt worry bout holding onto the recipt.

They won't be happy about it, you just have to stay calm and firm on what you want. It sounds like you both made mistakes so point out all of the errors that were made, perhaps have them written or drawn if it's hard to explain. You may have to agree on a price to have the tank fixed or replaced if you also made mistakes. If it was purely their error, tell them they should have asked if they were unsure and to replace the aquarium. Knowing your rights helps too. Best of luck!

Where has dattofish made a mistake? To me it reads as he has changed on there professional opinion and then made a stand to suit?

don't make threats, calm and collected and state the facts

I use the word threat as in mention them, calm and collected is the way to go. Loose your cool and you will loose your battle

when we agreed on changing the measurement that was before brake up of last year i think a week or 2 before the 21st of dec so he said that hes waiting on a quote from the glass shop an then was waiting for the glass shop to open. from what he has been telling me he didnt order the glass till when companys started back at work on the 10th of jan then he told me on the 16th he only just got the glass 2 days ago an it was ment to be ready last weekend which turned into this weekend an droped it of saying the tanks front should be cured by now. but i dont even think hes tested it because it still has dirty marks all over it an even had 2 beetles in it for some reason

hopefully yous can see that picutre or even someone mite be able to get the picutre on without having to go to the link.

its a side view of the tank an can see the front lip of the stand is 50mm the sides 50mm (as ment to be sitting on that stand) but the back is 200mm because the tank is 150mm to short if was the right size tank the back of the tank would be 50mm of like the whole lot 50mm all round.

If your request, the advice you received, your final order and the cost is in writing you have everything on your side. If there is nothing in writing you may have issues.

This thread has a common vein running through it to others I have seen. If you are using a reputable tank maker or one of the ones listed on this site, their good reputation will be worth heaps to them. If you are using someone who can do it on the cheap then they are unlikely to care if they have cash in hand. But once again, you will need written documentation as proof of what you requested compared to what you received.

i know i used to have a recipt with the measurements saying 2.1 x 750 x 600 but all going to plan i didnt worry bout holding onto the recipt.

If you don't have that or some sort of written history of the change in dimensions it could turn into a he-said she-said type debate and you'll get nowhere. Good luck...

the last photo is a top view to see the bracing.. theirs a 80mm strip going right down each side of the length of the tank an then joining between the two is anougher strip only joint by silicon i wouldve thought to brace it that strip would be going underneith the two long ones an stuck together not just joint in the middel so to me thats just a stiffner not a brace?

i havnt botherd filling it an not to keen on it as can move that so called bracing.

an its 650mm with 10mm sides id say it would bow as was told if want to go anymore than 600 high you would need 12mm sides.

thanks so its just not me an friends that have come round an seen it that think the same.. i could walk round it all day taking photos.. i paid alot of $ for it an didnt execpt a finish like this.. do you see what i mean about the bracing at the top? its more like a stiffner to me. i have read of this site they make good custom tanks but when i got this one i thought hmm not so much. what about it being 10mm sides an 650mm high. i thought the rule was 12mm sides if wanted to go any higher than 600?

an yea the bracing i dont see how its braced? it looks rushed he couldve atleast tidyed up the silicon while it was wet. an for him to say the front should be cured by now gives me the impersion that he hasnt tested it. an im not to keen on testing it id rather drop it back at the shop an get my $ back or wait for them to do it the right size as per instructions

Most tank makers don't test their tanks before giving them to their customers. Next time you go back to the shop, take the tank with you, unload it and point out all the flaws in it. Then leave it at their shop, it's no use to you. Definitely look at getting your money back unless they know how to construct aquariums.

yea was thinking of doing that, does everyone agree if its 10mm sides an being 650 high its not safe? an what do yous think about the bracing if ya'd even call it bracing if ya give it a little wriggle slowly it has a movemnt to it the whole thing looks slapped together by silicon. if anyone in chch want to come over an have a look at it with a second option feel free?

If you can prove that it is not fit for the purpose (you may need to get a written professional opinion if they put up a fight) then you are well and truly covered by the consumer guarantees act. The most important thing is to keep a paper trail (if it becomes a legal battle and you payed cash and have no receipt you may have an issue even proving that the guy built the tank). But before you get too worked up talk to the guy. He may sort it out without an issue. Worst thing you can do is go in there with the fight half way through in your head. It sounds to me like you should be aiming for a refund, if did such a bad job the first time I wouldn't trust him to do it right the second time.

yea yea thats true.. well if anyone lives near addintion an doesnt mind poping over fo help with some advice that would be good. we have been calm about it just went in their yesterday an they couldnt find the recipts in the book but i know for a fact i did have one that said 750 wide, thats why i made the stand to suit a tank that size. its a well known company an have read threads on here of how much they make a good job of custom tanks so was expecting a way better job than this. even the silicon job is ruff

SO IF ANYONE IN CHCH ADDINGTION WOULD LIKE TO COME CHECK IT OUT FOR ME FEEL FREE..
