disgustipated
hello to all my salt water comrades. i have never kept SW fish, and i really don't know a lot about it. but as a commercial diver i am frequently out on the hauraki gulf in my large barge type vessel. so i was wondering if there is a market for fresh, natural salt water. most of the places i dive are pretty murky, but i could collect water from deeper and cleaner areas on the way to and from jobs. do any of you guys use it, and if so what do you pay for it? GrahamC
Would you need some type of license for that? You're allowed to collect 1000L per day for personal as AFAIK.
disgustipated
i have no idea if you'd need a licence, or what the regulations are. any information would be helpful. if there is going to be a market for it, i will look into it further, but if not, i won't... GrahamC
16.3.2 Taking and Use of Coastal Water (Permitted Activity) The taking and use of water from the CMA is a permitted activity provided it complies with the conditions stated in this Rule. Conditions i. The take and use occurs in open coastal waters; or ii. The take and use occurs in estuaries, inlets, harbours or embayments and the quantities taken and used are less than 1,000 cubic metres per day. Is the Hauraki Gulf open coastal water? If so, no limit it seems as long as you leave some behind.
disgustipated
doesn't mention what the dig is on harvesting and selling it commercially... first things first, hypothetically, will anyone want to buy it?

hovmoller
Back on topic. I don't think you will find many interested buyers unless you would run some kind of delivery service and sell it for half the price of artificial water. I get my water in 20 16L buckets into my station wagon and it is very satisfying getting it myself instead of paying big bucks for making it artificially
F15hguy
wouldn't it be cheaper for the person buying it to drive to the beach???

GrahamC
Is collecting water from the wharf any good? Or do the boats discharge nasties into the water rendering the water unusable?
