dino
Do people use salt? irrespective of whether they have a decease or not?
F15hguy
I don't, only as a treatment, I prefer not to use prophylactic measures at all, plus if your constantly adding salt to a tank there is the risk of the concentrations increasing to dangerous levels. alanmin4304
Some people in the killi club use about a teaspoon of salt to the gallon to prevent velvet on Nothobranchius sp. They are terrors for gettin velvet but peat works just as well. I don't use salt.

Hmmm. I think you probably mean 'preventative'... You might want to google prophylactic... :rotf:
Godly3vil
You might want to google it purplex, what he said makes sense. Prophylactic: A preventive measure. The word comes from the Greek for "an advance guard," an apt term for a measure taken to fend off a disease or another unwanted consequence. A prophylactic is a medication or a treatment designed and used to prevent a disease from occurring.

Godly3vil
I did until recently, only stopped because I wanted to know if it was the cause of my guppies dying. Turns out it wasn't though. My father used to add normal old table salt to over 30 tanks with every water change as a preventative measure against fungal and some parasitic infections and swears by it. 1 tsp/2 Gal. blueether
I normally only use it as a ich cure but did dose my 430L tank when I tore it down and re-set it up the other month (at 3g/L) as well as a dechlorination product - it was a near a 100% w/c.
