wee2
they are all so very nice. $$$$$$$
Joe
Yeah I know I could get them but they cost a bomb! Also they wouldn't be very helpful if I was trying to breed my Apistos because they'd eat the fry  If I had more tanks then I'd get into plecs seriously, because they are so awesome and are also one of the few types of fish where there are little or no man-made colour morphs or hybrids which is good for me because I don't like mutations. Joe
Aww damn! Lol. I thought that a lot of them were hard to breed and that there was much less of all that hybridization stuff going on? I'm sure I read that about plecs somewhere?
Jaide
All of the above - and where the hell can we buy them??

disgustipated
i was wondering about that. are there specific plecos on "the list" or are plecos as a whole allowed into NZ?
disgustipated
good question mahn. unfortunately they have to be specifically named on the list by scientific name to be allowed into NZ. sweet, thanks for answering that question for me mahn. no worries mahn. camtang
Are you talking to yourself bro?
henward
haha there is a list on one of the topics. your main problem is that importing one pleco is too expensive, importing lots of little ones - you need to sell them. find a supplier. but hey, maybe someone here will eventually just do it. who knows.
disgustipated
answered my own question. i really should try answering them before i ask them. still - original question - what is the pleco that david posted and i reposted above? David R
Correct, P. suttoni, pic taken from here. Ashdavid is a collector and photographer in Japan who has some absolutely amazing fish and tanks (like Snowy, and this 7000L tank) and used to post pics on MFK occasionally, but after constantly being hounded for other pics, full tank shots etc, as well as being tall-poppy-chopped he seemed to stop a few years back, unfortunately. But back to the plecos....
henward
How cna you possibly be a tall poppy chopped when you h ave a 7000litre tank? weird.
David R
people claiming the fish weren't as big as claimed, photos faked because they had been "photoshopped" (ie shot in RAW by a professional photographer and edited), demanding to see full tank shots etc etc, the last few pages of these two threads sum it up really; link, link. KrazyGeoff
its 'L-prob would never get in nz' :sml1: Actually it's 'L - it really is on the allowed list' But it does not have an L number as it is scientifically described, but if lotto was kind to me, it would be imported. David R
Yeah I forgot to mention they are actually are on the allowed list, and were (IIRC) available once upon a time many many moons ago, but not all that popular as the other "fancies" were far prettier with their stripes and spots and colours. Amazing what an export ban, greatly reduced supply and the internet will do for the popularity of a species, I think you'd be lucky to pick one up for much under US$5-600 now... KrazyGeoff
But US$5-600 is ok as a year or so ago they were US$5-10,000 (Unless of course you forgot a 0 David? Cheers
David R
Holy! didn't think they were that much, I knew they were a couple of grand a while back thou.
KrazyGeoff
Yup, they were really really expensive, and then suddenly they were only 1/10th of the price, I think the fishery was opened, or another fishery discovered???
David R
I think there are two "blue eyes", P. suttonorum and P. cochliodon (not the one we see here under that name), maybe it was a combo of both factors?
