Hdoubleu
Looking at second had tanks and there are so many ugly stands. Do people just buy a tank then go to the op shop and buy the ugliest thing they can find to put it on? :dunno: Maybe I should stop being tight with my money and buy a brand new one. Rant over.
GZ_Loach
stands are the last thing ppl want to spend money on
Joshlikesfish
If I was to do a nice display in the lounge or whatever, I'd want a nice stand. But with my breeding set up I want it to be cheap and practical
phoenix44
If you are buying one from a shop - make sure it is not MDF. Evilness happens if it is MDF.
Joshlikesfish
MDF makes a horrid material  It turns into cardboard
Phantom
MDF isn't earthquake proof either
Hdoubleu
We are looking for a display tank for our lounge. Some of the ones advertised on TM with stands are terrible.
bdspider
Have you tried looking at the other furniture sections? I've seen nice desks or TV stands used for tank stands. Mine is a $30 wooden desk I sanded & repainted, I'd never trust a pet store stand now, they look too cheap & flimsy. My main thought when looking at a stand now is "will it topple in an earthquake?" haha.
SamH
It turns into cardboard  No no, it turns from cardboard on steroids to weetbix

mcrudd
I was very fortuanate to buy my tank and stand together for the price of the tank only because Animates have used it as a display tank for two weeks
Trilobite
No no, it turns from cardboard on steroids to weetbix You pretty much summed MDF up in one sentence right there
GZ_Loach
no no, it turns from weetbix to wet soggy weetbix. I've got a bare metal stand that i plan to clad with mirror like material
smidey
If you are buying one from a shop - make sure it is not MDF. Evilness happens if it is MDF. only if they are melteca/melamine with PVC clashed edges. the stands that have foil wrapped mdf/pb panels are far better. if they were made out of ply i am sure there would be many threads complaining about the price :sml2:
Ira
Maybe I should start eating it for breakfast then  Probably taste about the same.

disgustipated
it doesn't matter what your stand looks like, as long as it is sturdy. aesthetics don't count for jack when there is 600 litres of water, glass and dead fish spewed through your house. i have had some super ugly stands, but they have all been sturdy as. and all i ever needed to do to distract from their ugliness was drape a "curtain" over the stand. like what you do if you have an ugly couch you don't want to part with. i buy flags from the local $2 shop, pirate flags to be precise, and use blue tack or tacks to hang them around my tank stand. makes it look super cool... arrrrrrrrr! 8)

(Ans yes, the curtain idea is awesome, I used to have a piece of black material stapled around an old desk on my previous tank.)

disgustipated
this flag used to completely cover my old tanks stand. but my tank grew, and the flag stopped fitting. the big black piece of wood hiding the ugly metal stand is actually my poker table which just happened to be perfect size for the purpose. arrrrr!
