smidey
i went to stay with my sister in queenstown for a few days this past weekend. pic taken from my sisters lounge window of the remarkables i was lucky enough to take a flight to milford sound then a cruise down the sound to sea & back again. it is the most amazing place & i would highly recommend seeing NZ before going elsewhere, this place is breath taking. out of the plane heading toward milford sound, this is coronet peak i believe milford airport from above the cruise ship in milford sound 150m waterfall the asain tourists that WERE on the front got quite a surprise when the ship got that close  wasn't cold at all  cheeky bird flying back to queenstown

alanmin4304
As a kid we always spent our holidays around the lakes and sounds. That was in the good ol days when you could just pitch a tent by a lake without getting arrested. Fond memories.

Ira
the plane we went in only needed half it's length There are a lot of planes that could land in about 1/20th of its length. Still, you won't be able to do a big lazy turn around.
