alanmin4304
Maf banned the importation of goldfish after they found a bacteria on goldfish imported to Australia from Singapore that they thought was a threat to trout and salmon. Can't remember what it was but that was the reason given to me.
reef
Goldfish Have many Hazards, so hence it can't be imported. Goldfish will be ale to be imported soon, however there are major conditions to be met by importers which will make it pointless to import. alanmin4304
When the present code of practice was being sorted for fresh water tropicals I discussed it with some of the top guys from Maf and they were considering allowing the importation of eggs which would be hatched and raised by Maf. To me this had too many pitfalls to consider.
David R
why cant you import gold fish, its ridiculous Goldfish can survive outdoors unheated in most parts of the country, the real question is if its not illegal to keep and breed goldfish why the hell can't we have fw rays?!?!?!
henward
agreed rays will die with in minutes of being in water so cold! they wont even eat, metabolise food. i dont understand either. there are alot of inconsistencies with the rules. just a part of life i guess
alanmin4304
The parliamentarians who make the rules know what a goldfish is but have no idea about a fresh water ray.
reef
why the hell can't we have fw rays?!?!?! who said you can't?? You can import anything if you do the research and put in a submission and pay the costs Adding fish to the import list has only been done by a very few importers. Fish societies & hobbyist should be the ones to get involved , however they don't want to do anything.
henward
yes, that is true costs money too though. if we pool together here, maybe fnzas should put a TRUST ACCOUNT number, we all donate for the cause, and import stuff like that:D
