SamH
Tried to get some free plants down at the stream, introduced wierd worm/larave things. Evac'd occupants and tore down tank. Put it back together within a couple of hours. Here's what it looked like around midday: Any ideas on what I should stock (apart from little BN, Betta and Platy) and what other plants I should get? Running 2x Cool Daylight and 2x Cool White 18w tubes over it. Will add CO2 shortly, anyone know how to dose HaNs's PMDD? Thanks
livingart
hi sam nice scape you could stand heater upright behind plants on right it will help your scaping IMO
SamH
Thanks Livingart, I'll move it tomorrow. The 100w heater in my new 85L bare tank is having trouble. Set at 26 but only manages 23 and is constantly on. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Aquila
Looks great! I would also recommend you move the heater a bit to the right, and then replant a few of the really tall plants in toward the center at the back to help cover it
livingart
sorry sam, if you aren't electrically competent it is usually a case of buying a new one hiding the equipment in the tank helps the ambience of the picture you have created
HaNs
For every 100g of PMDD you will need to add 500ml of water. I suggest you only mix up only enough for 2-4 weeks supply. Keep the PPMD out of the light in a dry place. I suggest using 2 drops for every 40L of water. Over dosing can cause problems, less is more
HaNs
Turn the heater up, not many are accurate on the gauge
Romeo
Regarding the heater, we solved out problems by draping a couple of fleece blankets over them at night. Cuts the power use down significantly .
SamH
The heater did make the thermometer read 26 and was switching on and off fine. But the water was cold at the bottom of the tank so I added a pump and now the heater cant keep up. The heater is only a week old too! SamH
It finally switched off! Just now! Thermo reading 25C at the moment, might poly the sides.
supasi
Have you tried t check with another thermometer?? I have two electronic themos in one tank and one reads 26.2 degrees and the other reads 24.6. HTH
SamH
It's not the thermometer but good suggestion. Its a 85cm long, 40cm high, 25cm wide, would that make a difference? The heater is horizontal atm.
SamH
Heater moved behind the Hygro and Bacopa, can't see any silver now . Tank looks clear this morning. What should/can/could I stock it with? Open to any BN, Betta, Platy and Plant friendly suggestions. Must be able to fit in a 2ft 54L tank. phoenix44
An oscar would be nice. Very friendly fish like little puppies I think you should put some more plants in the tank. thin out some of the barcopa and re plant it; same with the hygrophillia. then you can get some cardinals or neons. SamH
An oscar would be nice. Very friendly fish like little puppies Imagine what an Oscar would do to my scape! And yeah, I should thin it out. I don't like schooling fish, my neons and harlequins all died from infections that they all got. Maybe it's just my luck though? Killies! Anyone got Killies and/or info on them?

whetu
Looking good, Sam! It should grow in really nicely. Once the hair grass has filled up the front a bit more you could get a mini lawn-mower and keep it mown. although you might need a mini-tractor and hay bailer by the looks of it.
