make sure its got at least two hdmi inlets

i bought a plasma over a year ago and then had to buy an extra thing for more hdmi

eg,freeview,dvd player(suround)ps3 etc

plasma is ment to be quicker but i cant tell the diference

but i know the hdmi cable is inportant we got a few cheap and dear and you can tell in the graffics

oh i got a small lcd and if i dont sit wright in front the colour distorts but not with the plasma

but with the plasma if i leave something paused on the screan it kept that faint pic on it(always disapers in a few mins)

lcd doesnt do that

i prefer plasma(better colour no matter where i sit)

I got a 32" LCD yesterday. To be honest I don't know a thing about them and I got the one that had the most discount on it. Yay for Boxing Day sales :bounce:

It has two HDMI inputs which is handy, as chilli points out.

I've replaced my old 29" CRT so any LCD is going to be an improvement

graphics in fast ps3 games thats all

dont waste your money on cables that are realy pricie

a more$ give more gbps

but thats not inportant to play movies etc

(was just thinking only about ps3 games)sorry

How is it different? Bluray still needs decent bandwidth.

I spose you made sure you got a 120hz tv chilli? For those "fast" ps3 games?

Sony Bravia's are great provided you get at the least the "V" series or upwards (v,W,X...)

These LCD's are FULL HD, which is what you will need.

Multiple HDMI inputs are a benefit as previously stated.

and BUILTIN Freeview is a bonus too.

Samsungs are great LCD tvs too.

Panasonics are the best in Plasma and the there is very little difference in picture quality compared with LCD tv's.

Don't let plasma put you off a purchase if it is cheap.

It it were me.

I would look for:

1. Full HD (High definition along the width and height of the screen. HD ready means it is only High definition along the width of the screen)

2 Builtin Freeview

3 Price.

This (the KDL40W4000 to be exact) is what we got back in August, and with a Sony home theatre system too.. its awesome. But beware builtin freeview is the digital one I believe, which as it turns out, is not available for everyone. Yet. But you're in Auckland so its all good for you. I love the fact that it has multiple plugs things, we currently have plugged in a DVD Recorder, the Sony home theatre system through the HDMI and the PS2 all plugged into the tv at once,. No changing of plugs required! YAY!

Grant's preferences would be (not in any particular order) Samsung, Panasonic or Sony. Depending where you are, if Freeview is available via UHF, get one with an integrated tuner to get good high definition reception. If you don't have Free view vbia VHF save some money and buy one without the integrated tuner as you won't get high defiiition for some years yet.

He prefers LCD due to lower power consumption and less heat generated than plasma. Plasma can also cause intereference on some radios. Plasma is arguably a better picture but you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.

LCDs are geneally lighter so easier to hang off a bracket or wall etc if required.

All HD TVs have HDMI inputs, even cheap ones and lots of other inputs and outputs for easy connection of other gear.

If you are in to HD movie playback see if you can do a deal on a blue ray player or maybe, with Sony, a PS3 which will also play back blue ray and it's often a very cheap way to go.

I agree with all the Samsung fans. I have a 40'' Samsung LCD which we've had for two years now (yes the price we paid compared to how much they are now is heartbreaking but then if we'd bought it now we wouldn't have had two years use of it!) and it is just fantastic picture quality. We plan to buy a 32'' Samsung next week for the bedroom and we have a Samsung washing machine too, fantastic stuff!

Thanks for all the feedback, bought a panasonic today, LCD,HD, 100Hz, built in freeview. etc, etc.Has everything that we want and got sick of looking and listening to sales people :D .

we asked young guy about setting it up and he said it was difficult but he could do it after work for $90.. Got home and took 15 minutes to set up.
