shipping fish

You have to ask the couriers if they will take them. This seems to vary from area to area. I have sent and received fish via Post Haste but others have said their Post Haste won't accept live animals. If you find a courier willing to transport them, they need to be double bagged (1/4 water and 3/4 air in the bags) with packing around them to stop them moving around in the container. At this time of year they need to be in a polystyrene box. Fill a 2 litre plastic fizz bottle with hot water and wrap it in a towel or newspaper and pack it in with the bagged fish. This will help keep them warm. The container will need to be clearly marked "Live Fish" on all sides along with "Fragile" and "This Way Up" signs. Of course, don't forget the address as well

Courier post and Pace couriers are the same company. Pace does urgent couriers like Sub 60 around town and Courier post have next day delivery nationwide.

You will need to find out when there latest pickup time is to shorten the transit time between localities

We live up in the sticks and have shipped lots of fish by just using the normal Courier Post at the post shop.

Cost was around $18:00 to $20:00 for just about anywhere in the North Island, and we included a five dollar heat pack ... AND a large styrene box at that price :):)

When "posting" fish, make sure they are in a water-proof envelope.

They cannot exceed a certain size as you then get a large increase in the postal charges.

To add insult to injury, they must be packed in crush proof envelopes, that will not be squashed as they go thru the letter counter.

As for keeping them warm, dunno, they don't make heat-paks that small, so guess you'll have to use priority mail to speed up delivery.

Other than that BG, I think the answers prior to mine, will answer your question.

Alan

ps. don't even think of sending my guppies as I suggested

HEAT PACKS ARE A LIFE SAVER!

they will help keep the fish warm for hours,

or pollie will do the job if you cant get any, (but its not as good)

just make sure you write live fish SAME DAY on the box !
