Heir
Hey all Does anyone know the legality around keeping trout ? I've tried google but it just came up with minimum lengths for taking them home and eating them. And I'm gonna be slightly ticked off if keeping them has more restrictions than natives! But I think they will as they're "game fish" ppit.
Guest
All I know is that they have to be at least 45cm to keep but I don't know if that means your allowd to take them home alive at that size.
Stella
Nup, sorry to be boring yet again, tis technically illegal to keep trout alive without being a fish farm or suitably licensed premises..... Tis also illegal to catch them in a net, even if you are licensed!

alanmin4304
Both trout and salmon need cold, clean highly oxygenated water and will not do well in a pond or fish tank.

alanmin4304
I kept trout for a couple of years in a gold fish pond and they hardly grew at all. Went fom about 15mm to 50mm. Got them back to the Waimakariri before the Maf boys came to inspect the place for importing (gave away the white clouds in the other pond as well). They do well in the trout farm by the Waimakariri because the river is running through the bottom of the pond.
