Alan
My Panduros spawn again BUT or should it read You stupid b------ It was about 9.30pm( EDIT - Rose tells me it was 8.30pm) on Wednesday evening the 14 of March and I went out to the fishroom in the garage to turn of the lights. As usual, I checked over the tanks of fish and one of the first I checked were my Apistograma panduro, yes!! They had laid more eggs and I was on the verge of saying goodnight and then I thought, hold on, there’s a spare tank beside them, same water, just need a box filter and a heater to bring the temperature up to 28oC, same as the parents tank. The heater was easy, and as it was doing its job, I located a box filter and took it inside to clean it up. This was done and I was having a problem to get it to sit on the bottom without flicking over. To gain access to the tank that was 1.8 m off the floor I had two choices. Go to the other room and find a double step stool standing at 450mm high or use a single step stool, 325mm high and put on top of that a plastic stand at 210mm high. I opted for the twin setup as it gave me just a bit more height, as the top of the tank was 2100mm from the floor. I finally got the filter to sit right on the bottom and was thinking of putting in another bucket of fresh water to go with the two already in the aquarium. When all of a sudden, I found myself on the floor as the plastic stand had slid off the wooden one. That wouldn’t have been so bad, but at the time of that slipping I had my hand inside the tank, which of course, without my knowledge followed me down. It hit on the left side of my head ripping open a 75mm tear and stunned me momentarily, all I can say is I staggered inside and called out to Rose for help, on seeing me she almost fainted as my face was covered with blood, slowly making a pool bigger at my feet. I have a heart condition that requires medication of warfarin, which of course makes the blood thin and difficult to clot. She guided me inside with a towel wrapped around my head, and the towel was slowly changing red, she made me comfortable in the computer room and left me with instructions to hold the towel and not move. As I was doing this I heard her making a 111 call to summons an ambulance. Now for her to do this I realized that I was possibly worse than I thought I was. In due course the ambulance arrived, the crew stabilized me as much as possible then it was off to the A&E of the local hospital. Here I was stripped of my soaking clothes and dressed in those terrible no backed gowns and then they started the assessment of the damage. It was beyond their aid, other than cleaning up to see what could be seen and I was allocated a doctor and an intern and after multiple injections of a mind numbing substance, they stapled it together. Sharn and Mystic would be proud of me. I now have 14 added extras. A deep puncture wound on my right forearm was treated using supa glu or at least its medical, and where my nose was also opened up, luckily not loosing the tip of it, was repaired using little paper strips, I look absolutely ridiculous now, and the final injury was when I belted my calf muscle onto the bottom stool causing a huge bruise which almost put me into a wheelchair. We got home from the hospital at 1.30am and with the painkillers had a reasonable nights sleep. Today I’m feeling like a massive hangover, and I have the remains of the tank ready to be stripped down and repaired. I was lucky. I had a woman to care for me, and if the tank hadn’t of come down nice and square as it had, and got me with a corner in the temple, I doubt I’d be here writing out a report of how careless I was and the consequences, the weight of the tank plus 20 litres of water and what could have happened, kept Rose awake most of the night just thinking of it. But to top it off, after checking just now, 2.30pm Thurs. the spawn is still intact, the most distance a spawning has got, so maybe it was all worthwhile. AMAZONIAN
Hi Alan I hope to hell you're ok. The fish will spawn again, but that's taking the breeding lust to "NEW HEIGHTS". Get yourself ok and then attack the little beasties with the appropriate retribution the next time eggs arrive.

Adrienne
S--t, you were really lucky and they really are staples! I cringed when I first read what happened and looking at it is even worse and this is from a qualified first aider who works a school sickbay area. Next time get a ladder, its not worth it. I really hope you don't suffer any problems from this.

AMAZONIAN
Hi Alan It seems like a "Lesson well learnt". As I said, attack them next time "But do it from FLOOR LEVEL". I have found they are easy to rear and hatch artificially and am on my fourth spawning from my two pairs. The fish will be there later Alan. In the meantime good luck and a very speedy recovery.
