I aim for nitrates below 5-10ppm. Nothing tells me zero has any benefits. Corals utilise nitrates especially clams. I want to make sure I don’t get the pastel look in my tank. Some nitrates do give you richer colours.

I used to do when ever for water changes, some times every 4 months, but at the moment doing weekly to see if there are any benefits. Use Red sea salt.

That is not long. less than 3 weeks. Time is the best form of cycling.

Hows the tank.? All your levels will go up. not sure why you would want to do a big water change thru a cycle, Having all the yellow water green algae is all part of the cycle. best just leave it and only have the lights on for a few hours a day.

Here are some shots. the water is crystal clear and nice colour developing on the tri colour acro. pics taken with canon 350D, Lens is not the best. still waiting for the Is/uvm lens which should improve pics.

it is not a problem if your drip the kaltwasser at night time.

I dont have the pastel colours yet, but i beleive it happens when your nutrients get very low, not low po4. I supplement with trace elements so at this stage i dont have that problem. Iwan also uses t5s only so you do tend to get pastel colours also. Fays tank is looking pretty clean as she also doses biodigest. I use biodigest, biotim and reef booster which contains amino acids. I dose weekly bt will be looking to do it fortnightly as my tank looks clean enough. I also dose active bak which is a carbon source for the bacteria, you can use vodka also. Iwan uses the same prodibio products. That cant be. he has a sand bed I was reading that BB was popular in the 1970s. looks like it is coming back,

75 in , that is huge, my tank water is 20in.

he uses carbon and skimmers as well, he does not use full zeovit. only uses start 2 which is a carbon source you could use vodka and he uses CV which is a coral food. A number of tank have been testing it and so far all the results are good, getting readings of below .02ppm on the hannah meter on a number of tanks using it with no other Po4 remover. Prodbio is not expensive. use it weekly then after 1 month you only use it every two weeks. Talk to tim or john in CC.

what is wrong with your tank, do you have pics. Like i said get biodigest its a bactaria that will clean your tank. quite a few people are starting to use it and all have said that it has really cleaned the tank.

This is Iwans tank from Swiss land He uses t5s and the prodibio bacteria to get the stunning colours. Been doing prodibio weekly and have noticed the same effect which is improved colours and a much cleaner tank. These are the first photos i have seen of his tank that have not been photoshopped to a great degree. Still this is one of my favorite tanks

red sea is ok, they are pretty much all the same. red sea have a new salt coming out that will have a higher calcium level. it will be a min of 450ppm.

mega pics mean nothing after 6mp . quality of the photo is more important. The review on the camera was not bad, has some good features, but the most important thing which is photo quality it did not score well, get some 16.9 full tank pics up

1/2 a litre of 100% magnesium chips cant keep my magnesium levels up so i cant see how dolamite will. maybe on a very small tank with no acros
