    Magnesium

    MgO is magnesium oxide The rest of dolamite is made up of CaMg(CO3)2 Composition: Molecular Weight = 184.40 gm Calcium 21.73 % Ca 30.41 % CaO Magnesium 13.18 % Mg 21.86 % MgO Carbon 13.03 % C 47.73 % CO2 Oxygen 52.06 % O ______ ______ 100.00 % 100.00 % = TOTAL OXIDE

    RODI

let the tank mature and find the source that is adding the nutrients. Vodka is not a thing to play around with until you gain more experiance to notice when to adjust dosing. vodka will also help the growth of bad bacteria as it is not selective in which bactaria it feeds. Get some biodigest which has bactaria which will help reduce nutrients.

because it is only Magnesium 13.18 % Mg 21.86 % MgO

    RODI

why are you adding vodka? it is ok to reduce nutrients but your tank is new so i would not bother,

looks like the skimmer is over skimming, can you reduce the water level in the skimmer a bit.

    Paint

Dont like the black as it seems to draw the light away from the tank, Blue colours seems better.

    water chemistry

Most important thing is to dose only one element and then test the next day as sometimes they take a day to rise after adding. It is not important if calcium is 400ppm or 430ppm. There is no magic number for me. I don’t really care if my magnesium is 1100ppm vs the 1250ppm target. Really can’t see how 125ppm is going to make a big difference. Also if you don’t have your tank at full strength seawater then you can aim for lower parameters. The key is stability. I can see why hobbyist are having problems as they add a bit of this then a bit of that. All adds up to ionic imbalance. I aim for Calcium 380-430pp Magnesium 1100-1300ppm Kh 7-9 Nitrate under 10ppm Po4 under .05. Salinty 1.024-1.026 In terms of po4 I can never get it to .01. Just is imposable. But acros are still very well coloured..

    New Skimmer

The skimmer that was built was 250mm tube. If you go with bigger diameter it will be big bucks. If you also use the nice grey piping for the skimmer then get a mortgage.

    New Skimmer

Interesting to see what it will cost once completed . a 12-18 inch tube will cost over $400 I got this skimmer made a few years ago and it cost over $3000 without labour cost. Was a good way to lose $1000

    New Skimmer

Sure am, but any cowboy can try to get a few from a third party. Pricing is pretty much similar to any other brand with the same quality. h&s, Bubble king, grotech. These are not skimmers that are produced by the 1000s and are generally hand made so labour cost is far more. Also best to compare apples with apples when comparing skimmers as most manufactures over rate them. Nice skimmer TM, cost $450, Can you please make 100 and sell them for $450 and live of the proceeds so you can feed your family. , basically once you add your profit and R&D it will cost over $1000. So in reality it is not cheap either. Fish hobbyist think that aquarium stores/manufactures should work for free. but people in the other business are allowed to earn over $30 a hour. At the end of the day things cost what they cost for a reason. If shops could do things cheaper they would but the reality is they cant as they want to be around in 5,10 years, unlike all the fly by nighters who come and go, and there seems to be many going. Equanature for example is not doing so hot, i wonder why.

    diatom filters

So it could add diatoms to your tank and po4.

    diatom filters

diatom filters use silicate sand which can add silicate to your tank, so not the best for marine tanks
