  1. Sorry not interested in copies, Best to get the real thing as performance is far better and if you upgrade you will be able sell the real thing off at a far better price vs the copies which you won’t be able to give away.
  2. Just becaus they are hard coral does not mean that you need a calcium reactor, kaltwasser or addition of calcium added weekly should be ok.
  3. Just started reading the book. This is a must have for every reefer looking to get into the hobby. It’s up to date and has very good factual information. Hopefully some of the shops will have them soon.

    Test kit variance

Yes it can as test kits should be placed in a cool place as they can go off if overheated. Best to test against another salifert kit.

  9. Just received the new book, great read and it is based on current reef trends. a must have.

    Test kit variance

that makes sense as your kh was very low, out of balance. most aquarium controllers will do ph. temp. none i know of will do po4.ammonia,nitrate. alk, hopefully laytons controller will.

    Test kit variance

490ppm seems very high , how old is the salifert calcium kit? is it kept in a cool place. was looking at getting a calicum meter , however the reviews on the pinpoint meter is not that great. i now use two salifert calcium kits to double check my results. yes, but do you have $3000 lying around.
  14. On last night, was very interesting.

    My MCE600

Opening the air valve full will lower the water in the reaction chamber. Close the valve and the water level rises, Did you move the cup as high as possible?? If this does not work then raise the cup has high as possible, then close the air tap so it is just open. This should fix it as I just did it on a mce500. The reason it could be overflowing is that your tank is full of nutrients. Which is likely if you have not had a good skimmer on the tank for the last 6 months? Give it a try and let us know.

    My MCE600

I did suggest that you leave it fully open for a week,

you would only clean the whole skimmer one a year if that. all skimmers will produce extra bubbles until they break in.

    Triggers!

That is a stunner. Looks like he is clownfish safe
  19. That is on the high side, Hawaii fishes are expensive due to the long trip. Most other fish are not to far off the USA pricing. I think our corals are sometimes cheaper that the states . Because our quatity is far lower than the states , the margins are higher. Takes time to move stock. The NZ dollar is not looking good either which wont help in the future. Steve ,the States weekly order in livestock would add up to our yearly order.

good point, i will check, i might be thinking about the mce500 which has a blue sponge. If no sponge then you wont have to worry about it.

    My MCE600

You might have done some of these things, but this is what i suggest. Clean the blue sponge in freshwater. raise the collection cup as high as possable. open the air fully The skimmer takes tome to work as it needs to build the slime coat inside it . After a week drop the collection cup so that the foam slowly overflows in the cup. Set the air tap at 2 oclock. adjust cup as required. Air bubbles should stop, but you might get a small amount for a longer period.

    My MCE600

you need to wash the sponge as this will cause bubbles. something on new sponge can cause bubble. leave tap fully open for a week and then set at 2 oclock, it takes time for the skimmer to build a slim coat, afetr this you should have no bubbles. raise the cup high and let the skimmer settle in, afetr a week lower the collection cup as required.
  23. not many butterflys are reef safe, even copperband can be a pain. these are the one that are likly to be ok, burgess butterfly declivis tinkers copperband zoster longnose butterfly. careful as there are two types that look the same. the butterflys that come from deep water seem to be reef friendly. but the down side is that they are expensive. i think that is it, might be a few more but from experiance the rest will eat corals.
