That’s a good question. I have a very large distribution area which will help move stock, however 800 pieces is lots of items to move. I want to see if this excise will help reduce pricing. It may or it may not. Like all hobbyist I am interested in reducing pricing, however there is a way to do it and it takes a lot of neg with shops etc. I have seen koran angels for $90 in the shop for example. 2 weeks later it was still available. That is a very cheap fish and still did not sell. why is that? everyone says they want cheap pricing but when it does come the stock still does not move. Ultimately I can only do so much and it is always a balancing act between wholesalers and retailers. I never came out and said that hobbyist are getting overcharged and never lead hobbyist believe that we could match overseas prices and now make a claim that the prices are very cheap. I want accountability. So we want answers and I want to see how a yellow tang is going to cost $56 etc Nicks Then Nicks

Well give me $20k and go for it. it would be good for you, but 99% of the others will miss out
-
We could go on and on, however my goal is to make it cheap as possable by moving numbers so everyone wins, win/win. It has worked so far and will only get better if i can do more numbers, Hopefully next week i can do over 800 plus items which should see another cut in prices, especially if the US dollar holds out. Pointless getting in 800 pieces and having 400 in the tanks. no one wins . stuff due out on saturday should be well priced.
-
And on the first shipment you will get all the pieces you want. not.

But most hobbyist here are complying don’t even realise what it was like3-4 years ago. Things have really changed and pricing is ok most of the time and the variety is huge, Bring it in yourself sounds all nice, but in reality if you don’t have the skills things wont work out to well and can get really expensive. Everyone says pricing is high, then why not talk to the stores instead of making all sorts of claims about them making a killing. Go in and understand why they charge the way they do.
-
Well both of them have made big demands with pricing, so like all hobbyist we want them to deliver. They have been making big accusations that stores and importers are making a killing, so I am really interested so that I can give it up importing and enjoy the hobby as pricing will be cheap. some one give me $20k and the facility is yours. This is more than most facilities cost however as everyone understands i dont skimp on quality, only the best gear will do for me. I did it for a reason and delivered by slashing pricing over two years. So let’s see as there credibility is really on the line.
-
Well you seem to know everything, however u can never respond to any questions? does it take more that one line to write it?? Quote: it is true that you have set expectations of very competitive pricing nick/steve. then we get this then this are you going to stand and deliver? or is it again just misleading everyone as you do quite well. cant follow your mixed messages, everyone is expecting u to slash pricing by half as u displayed all the american sites with cheap pricing.

Quote: Well I am back from my visit to the UK and I could not believe the price of Corals, Fish and equipment compared to NZ. NZ is so expensive it is criminal.I am really disallusioned with pricing here. Yellow tangs..NZ$56 Royal Gramma..NZ$42 Clowns..NZ$36 Blue tangs..NZ$42 Basically 1/3 the retail price Corals Acropora(and most SPS)..very colourful large size NZ$120..Med NZ$70..Hollywood size NZ$50 Large Clams NZ $50 Softies NZ$42. The quality and colour of the corals we just donot see in our shops in NZ With regards to Equipment if it is displayed on a web page it will be at RRP which is set by the manufacturer and the retailer is not allowed to state any other price. That is why all the prices for equipment in the UK seems expensive, but the reality is very different when you talk to the shops. there is a skimmer in Hollywood at present for $900+ a nice little hang on model. I could buy them in the UK for NZ$376. The list goes on and one, I am just glad my tank is full and growing like mad so I can help the hobby out in NZ with realistically priced stock/frags Nick sparks Quote: I cannot guarentee the lowest in NZ as they are quite low now Nick sparks why is it cheap now. whats changed? did you do some homework?? You and steve did say you were going to match the overseas prices. Quote: If steve and nick do not do some form of direct selling then the prices to us keen guys will not change, so one of us will start importing.. If hobbyist cant manage a successful reef then how will they every have a chance to keep stock alive during the 3 week quarantine? everyone has overlooked this. Quote: One example that makes me laugh is, I have seen red sea prism pro delux skimmers for sale in America for around $85 american and I have seen three for sale here for $895 This is ludacris. High quality equipment isn't seen in shops here because with a mark up like that who is going to pay a couple of grand for a skimmer thats I doubt this is correct. Its really nice that everyone seems to think that i am the only importer, but there are others, althought i am cheapest , Be interesting how they are going to undercut me when my turnover is 2-3 times bigger.

We are waiting for the great pricing to come. not
-
well thats about to change.

what test kits make up a master test kit?
-
Try critter kingdom, i am sure they have some. salifert are looking at refills, but they said there is not a big demand. The good thng about salifert is that they always upgrade the test kits and price/quality is excellant.

Will the toxins from soft corals effect most sps? It is well known that many soft corals contain numerous toxic compounds such as sarcophines, terpenoids and diterpenoids. variuos transplant experiments using soft coral have shown effects on stony coral. in some cases, inter colony distances of 30cm resulted in stunted growth and death of stony coral. lobophytum etc. can vary , however if you use carbon it will help to reduce toxins. does any one have any good kinks to articles regarding this. Any decent coral book will have the info. the reef aquarium by julian sprung is good. Does anyone have a tank with mainly sps with little skimming? No sure, but all the best tanks with acros have huge skimmers and not many fish, however tanks that run miracle mud also seem to have nice acros,

Olympus C5050. Its ok. would work better if i knew how to master all the setup options.

Layton, you must be selling saltmix as well?? However you are pretty must spot on with your advice.
-
to take good photos i found the following. dont use a flash turn off the actinic lights. seems to make the photos go fuzzy
-
Get you facts right; yea 5-6 bags that i sold makes plenty of people.?? not I had excess so I had to sell it. Obviously I don’t actively sell it or promote a particular brand.
-
Which saltmix do i sell?. news to me. facts please not fiction. I use about a ton every two month thats about it, Seawater would be better if you could go and get it away from the harbour and beaches; however most of it is collected from the beach. Ask the council why they have to test for bacteria every week?? Why would they test if it was so clean?
-
This is really assumed. Most hobbyists don’t use natural seawater only people that are using it are either on a budget or have very little experience in long term reef aquariums and have not been around long enough to understand the problems many hobbyist have had. I have seen so many tanks develop problems with natural seawater, Mind you I have also seen tanks that use ASW that are having problems with algae etc. The people that use natural seawater can get away with using it because they have big skimmers which help removing pollutants before it becomes a problem. Natural seawater contains high organics which is caused by all the run off from land. I have checked the reports from the Auckland regional council which show that there is high organics in the water as certain beaches the bacteria count is high, Sure seawater can be used however it is like playing Russia roulette. Fine most of the time but your luck will run out one day. If you are going to use NSW. Take a test kit and measure the nitrates and phosphates before using it.

Thats a shame, i really was looking forward to it. Understand the demands as i am in very similiar situation, working on some new exciting business ventures myself.
-
Ask steve and nick, they are here to save the world, so expect prices to match america.
-
There are some new players in the market which will reduce the price to half due to direct sales. To be announce this week.
-
I am sure nicks/steve will beat that price. they always get bargains
