Cant be good for the acropora, it will tear the flesh off.
  2. Yea, I am going to rig the test, just so I can capture the huge market for Deltec skimmers in New Zealand as I am really desperate.
  3. Then what is your skimming taking out that you had to empty the cup in such a short time frame. I can also skim water and fill my cup in 5mins
  4. SO, that does not mean much as you have been under skimming for some time, no wonder it is taking out so much. Wishful thinking again. Much more higher and it will be filling the cup with water.
  5. OK, TEST ON, Deltec vs Beckett. i have run both skimmers in for two weeks and have moved to another tank. after 1 day the Deltec mc500 has some skimmate in the cup. the Beckett is foaming but nothing in the cup. I also put a bigget pump on the beckett as i felt it needed it as the bubbles were to big. Photos show that the Deltec has much smaller bubbles vs Beckett. Few things to change on the Beckett would be to add holes in the cup as the air cant escape ,i think this is why the neck gets so dirty. i have not screwed the cup hard down as i want the air to escape and let the foam rise. Cleaning the Beckett skimmer is a pain as you have to undo all the screws. a quick release neck would be better. The beckett has a lot of bubbles going in the tank. none from the Deltec Deltec mce500 Dimensions: L 210 W 90 H 530(allowing for removal of the cup) Stocking: Normal Stocking 550 Litres: High Stocking 360 Liters Beckett Footprint: 20cm x 30cm Total Height: 60cm Reaction Chamber Diameter: 15cm Maximum Capacity: 1400 liters ???

    Black Percula

unlikly too, very hard to get and will be out of everyones price range.
  7. Not so, the blue ball valve is to control the water outflow, the water level should be about halfway up the neck.

    Black Percula

I doubt they will be available as they are not easy to get. Must be rare as i have never seen them. But will do these at 1/2 price http://www.batterybob.com/productsByCategory.asp?intCatalogID=FISH&strCatalog_NAME=Tropical+Fish
  9. Most regal angels will eat pellets as they love to pick it of the substrate.
  10. i find to get best performance it is better top split the overflow and put most thru the skimmer . You do get better skimming and save power. i use a feed pump as it is too much work to gravity feed it. still get excellent skimming. i dont think the surge will be a problemb for the skimmer to handle. keep the plumbing simple.
  11. Actually i have found them quite easy, i think if you get them eating they are fine, we have 3 week quarantine in NZ so they tend to do better as we can get them eating , in the states they go almost directly into someones tank and they dont get a chance to start feeding. More Copperband butterflys die than regal angels. over 100 CB come in the country each year and i dont see too many in tanks...
  12. Beckett update, I had to move the two skimmers to another tank as they would not skim for some reason. Two days on the new tank and the becket is starting to skim well, in terms of pumps required to run these things i have found that you do need a good pump to get better performance, the via aqua 3600 is ok, but looking at the skimmer it could do with a far bigger pump. one thing i dont like about the skimmer is that the gate valve is below the water level and the screw is starting to rust. the deltec is not running at this stage.

    Maybe he wants a life.
  14. Thats the point, if it is dark over a short period then my theory is that it must be taking out more than a skimmer removing twice as much clear colour skimate. Jetski wrote Why is that. ? first you claimed that they were made in China, then you said they were copies of H&S. and not well known in Germany. Sounds Defamatory to me.
  15. But what good is it if it takes a month.

Not so. As you have to pay extra wages and tie in lie. So you have to sell maybe 3 times as much to cover your expenses,
  17. Colour of skimate is a good judge. i said doubt it to your comment. Also said that it is the time frame it takes. so dark skimate over a short period is better than dark skimate over a long period
  18. I doubt it. Colour of skimate is a good judge, especially when I have many skimmers to compare it with. Any skimmer can skim dry, but a good skimmer will do it over a much shorter period. Proof is in the pudding. Tank pics would help to show credibility.???
  19. i dont think can compare your diy to any of the top performing skimmers. i run 3-4 makes of skimmers and all the better ones produce a darker liquid becaus they are pulling the dirt out quicker. all the cheapo skimmers produce a light liquid.

Nothing has changed unless we have some secret suppliers somewhere. Only thing has changed is tha Aquanet the new zealands largest supplier brings in the best stock at the best prices.

Not a big surprise, they do have more tanks so they can hold more stock which is a good thing as selection is always a problem if you dont have enough tanks.

The same could be said for anyshop. It all depends when stock comes in.

I doubt that is true as they have not added any corals in the show tank for a long time and most of the coral that does go in the show tank is left over or damaged coral. The sale tanks have been looking good over the last 6 months so it must have been some time that you have been to see them. Most of the stock comes from the same supplier so the quality will be the same. I think that they are upgrading and adding additional tanks soon . pretty much like the Albany shop as they do have a good setup and big selection.
