big wet dry filter with lots of bio balls. canister filter is also good filled with sponge and filter wool.

    rodi

Just use tap water, it is cleaner than the seawater.
  6. news to me that i have heaps. got a 2-3 . you can get them from the rockpools at the beach.
  7. I think it has all to do with tall poppies. Does not matter how good the tank is you would form the same opinion.
  8. Brian the programme did not even display half my tank so I can’t see how you can form opinion. As mentioned why even bother posting with your negative attitude. I have evidence that is a great tank based that it got the best tank for 2005 rate my tank and that it made the PKF magazine tanks of the world. No other tank in NZ has done that. So I would get some facts than month off as your opinion does not really matter based on your limited knowledge. Again you spoil a thread because of your tall poppy syndrome attitude. Easy to say something without having anecdotal evidence to support what you are saying.
  9. TV3 are looking to do a profile tonight on a Marine Hobbyist. Discussing tanks etc. It will be a awesome tank.

    Shrimp

As mentioned price of fish is irrelevent. You can only sell a clown for so much, so price of tangs will be more so clowns , damsels etc can be lower.
  11. reef

    Shrimp

The reason is that small fish are done at cost or at a loss, so you have to make it up with the bigger fish. The price we pay for the fish is irrelevant in most cases; it is all the other costs that make up the final price of a fish. $135 for a cleaner shrimp is over the top, normally cost about $50-$80
  12. feelers, you cant link photos from reef central .

    Shrimp

    Try the post office.

    Skimmer

As i said for the price it is cheap, but performance will be lacking.
  15. reef

    Skimmer

Its a good price, you also have to add a pump. I quess for $200 you could try it .
  16. reef

    Skimmer

Which model is it?? must the the smallest at that price, The skimmers are of great quality but lack performance. The big commercial skimmers they make are pretty good.
  17.
  18. I have had that a number of times with my clowns. You can so anything about pop eye. , best is to leave it and see how it goes. my clown did not eat for two weeks and now she is a box of birds.

    deltec v beckett

Becketts are good skimmers as long as you have a good pump. A skimmer is only as good as the pump that runs it. Design is also important. When it come to cost the Deltecs cost slightly more as you have to compare the size of each skimmer not the ratings as some manufacture overrate their skimmers in terms of what volume it will do.
  20. As long as you have not posted on it then yes it would be true as you would not have a clue. Where is all your evidence to say that they copied h&s. pretty much slander again.
  21. pretty much incorrrect. discussed on reef central. They both share the patent for the needle wheel.
  22. Looking good.i like the open spaces. Wish i could do that, only problem is i like every coral i see so it goes in my tank.
  23. Read the thread as i had the specs. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-06/fm/feature/index.php Something for you to read as i am aware how skimmers should work and how to judge a good skimmer. will post more links so you can learn about air/water ratio. contact time etc. We are talking about a minor niche market for these skimmers. Also no one in NZ has the amount of experiance i have on using skimmers. I have used over 20 so i think i am up with the play on how a skimmer should work. pointless comments like my skimmer has taken a whole cup out means nothing . And another point, who sells Beckett skimmers in NZ. NO ONE. I am looking at doing it once i can compare results and pricing. So far the Beckets are not much cheaper when you compare apples with apples. I have not finished the test so everyone should hold on so i can complete it.
  24. also leave in a dark place for a few days.
  25. does not look like taxifolia. could be Bryopsis. i would make a big effort to remove it.
