Then every 5 minutes or so I'd add some tank water to the bag. After 15 minutes or so of adding tank water, I would net the fish out of the bag. Actually I hate netting them because I think it adds more stress but I never add water from where I purchased the fish from to the tank. Unless, of course, it's the first time adding any fish to the tank then it wouldn't matter. And oh, it doesn't have to be exactly 15 minutes, 5 minutes...but no less then in order for the fish to acclimatize. Caper

    Hello (:

I have 2 goldfish, Sam & Beauty, they are in a 29 gallon tank; 10 gallon, 3 cory's; 29 gallon 5 red eye tetras, 2 albino barbs, 1 green tiger barb, and 11 tiger barbs :-? I have a 55 gallon not set up yet. I was thinking of maybe trying cichlids, but now that we have a new pet store with much more variety of community fish, may go that way! Caper
  3. My goldies get peas once a week. When they are fed flakes I put them "in" the tank as opposed to dropping them on top of the water :-? , if you know what I mean. Some flakes still manage to float to the top but can't help that! I used to feed all my fish twice a day, with not food on Sundays. Now, I usually feed once a day every second day. So are they seem to be fine with this regime. Caper
  4. I don't know the "technical" side of it...but I sure do now how it looks...FANTASTIC...ah, could you build me one   Caper
  5. I'm guessing that's what the one more sleep is   How long are you going for? It is Scotland you are going to, right? Have a SUPER trip if I didn't miss you already. My brother and his wife went there and LOVED IT, it was always a dream of his. You are flying to British Columbia right, the opposite end of where I live in Canada. HMMMM...you will probably be flying over though, what time should I stand out in the yard and wave    Take care and have one heck of a time! Caper
  6. We have a new pet store and they sell cannister filters, yah, I think! Now, I suppose I could take forever and try to find all the posts about Fluval filters but I'm hoping you will not make me do that I have to admit that I never read many of the posts because until now you couldn't purchase a cannister filter here. I have my 55 gallon tank, still not set up since I still haven't figured out where to put it! Maybe at some point I'll post pics of my livingroom to see if anybody had any suggestions. My space is very limited. ANYWAY, now that I can actually purchase a cannister filter. What are your suggestions, pros/cons re: fluval?????? Thanks, Caper
  7. Oh my gosh, my heart sank when I first read this post, whew, glad they have been found. Did you ask them where they were??????? Caper
  8. Pretty fish My Sam used to be a really bright orange around his head and his tail, but eventually it faded, although lately seems a bit more orange again :-? Caper
  9. Sorry about your loss Caper
  10. Hi all! Sam my goldie has taken up sitting on the bottom of the tank. Now, he is not doing this all the time. I've only noticed him doing it maybe the last week or so. Yet, other times he's swimming around as usual. Sam is blind so I'm able to get a close look at him since he usually sits at the front of the tank. I can't seeing anything visible on him to be concerned about, that is no change in his appearance. Now, I didn't test the water since the other goldie Beauty is acting the same as always, hmmm...I guess it wouldn't hurt though to check the water, right :-? Any ideas folks? I'll test the water and post results later. Thanks, Caper

    HI All!

Thanks all for the welcome back :bounce: Yes, like a kid in a candy store. My sons gave me gift certificates for Christmas for the pet store, but have just been browsing for now. I am so anxious to get my 55 gallon up and running but the problem is I don't have a lot of space  . But at least now I'll have much more fish to choose from...once I decide what I'm going to do with it   Oh Caryl, darn too bad you'll be on the opposite end of Canada. Sure would love to meet you in person. Is that a stop over on your way to Scotland????? Caper

    Goldfish newbie

Hi & welcome! I have 2 goldfish Sam and Beauty. Sam was one of my first fish, Beauty my son gave me. He/she was called Beauty because she is a, ah fantail? (tsk tsk, been away from forum too long can't remember fish), anyway he/she had a deformed tail, thus the name Beauty but now the tail is beautiful as well! I sure hope your goldies have their license to drive that car! Take care & have fun, Caper
