    Gday everyone

Hi there Very nice tank...what size is it? This is a great site...so much info...unbelievable Take care, Caper
  2. Thanks Do dalmations normally loose some of their white...if you know what I mean, since they are more black now?
  3. Thanks all Anthony, when I bought him he had a lot more white on him, now if you look close you can see some white on him not as much though but my sailfin molly was the same when I bought him and he is more black now (than dalmation). You can't see in the pic too good, but the end of his tail and the tip of his dorsal fin are yellow. I was leaning more towards a molly now too :-? :-?
  4. Hi Blue & Kim...how you doing? Are convicts known for that kind of behavior?
  5. Oh my...just read again and realized that's what my daughter says too

    New tank thread.

    Looking forward to pics Jimmy
  8. Can't answer on that one Casey...I used something different. Since Alan used that he'd be the one to answer. As Kookie said, remove carbon from filters as this removes the medications you are using. When you're doing the water change, vacuum the bottom as well. I know its difficult when your fish are not "well" but try to have patience...haha...sorry, I don't have any

    Cat biscuits

And they are nutritionally ok for the fishies? Duh, I guess you wouldn't be giving them to them if they weren't, what I'm trying to say is..... :-? :-? ...do they have everything in them that say...the flakes would??? bruce_see., could give an added flavor to a milk shake
  11. I bought this guy in the summer, he was supposed to be a dalmation platy. But as he has grown, he looks more like a molly, what do you folks think??? Most of the white has gone from him as well, but that happened to my dalmation sailfin molly too, he's mostly black now with yellow at the end of his tail and a bit across the tip of his dorsal fin. Cees, is this picture too big? I tried making it smaller but when I previewed the 2 here, they looked the same! Darn, posted in wrong place, meant to post in freshwater, sorry :-?
  12. I've hear of the battery operated pumps as well, but can't get them here. I was in Halifax one time but they had none in stock. That's important to remember isn't it Ira, before starting the filter back up to empty the water that was sitting in it. I've been lucky so far only one power outage since I had the tanks but forgot to empty the water in the filter till I was reading a post that Caryl had posted! So, do you all think that a "sticky" if that's the right spot...about power outages would be a good idea????
  13. My 2 filters are Aqua-Tech Power Filters. The unit contains 1 bio filter that never gets replaced and gets swished around in a bucket of tank water occasionally. The other filter is a carbon filter the carbon is in the back while the front of the filter has a thick blue polyfiber pad on it. Now, I've been reading here that carbon isn't a necessity but since this is what goes in my filter, I'm not going to change it. Once a month, I put in a new filter (this is the one with the carbon) because the pad gets really dirty. When its not time to change the filter, I just swish it around in tank water as well (water in bucket). This is what the directions recommended that came with the filters. But really, by the time the month is up, you don't need directions to tell it needs changing, just looking at it does the trick it gets really yucky!

    Cat biscuits

okay...I think I got it! See the doggie biscuits here, like I said are acutal biscuits (as opposed to the dry food). So, I think your right then, it is just what we would refer to here for the cats as dry food sounds like you also call cat biscuits! :-? Why would you feed them to your fish though?

    New Reef Tank

Amazing!!! What is that in the third pic down? You could see the entire "thing" in another pic?

    Cat biscuits

Oh yah, we have dry food. But, never saw cat biscuits sold here, but keep in mind we don't have (except for 1 small one) pet stores here. Hmmm...you can buy dog "biscuits" here and that is what they are called (I used to have a dog), you give them as a treat not as a meal. You can buy treats for cats but there not called nor do they look like a biscuit, like doggie biscuits do. The cat biscuits that you refer to are they an acutal biscuit? Sorry off topic...just trying to explain. Anyway, these cat bisuits...do you have to soften them up first before feeding to fishies?
  20. OK...so beginning to understand...makes since, movement-oxygen, helps keep bacteria alive! So, I understand about keeping tanks warm (blankets), water changes to keep ammonia down! If there is any indication that power is going to be off for bit of time, should you take some water out of tank so that you can put the filters in and squish them around, would this help keep bacteria alive???? Or would that be useless?
  21. Tsmarina...smart, get fishies that have lots of babies...then, well, of course, more tanks...  :bounce: :bounce:
  22. Sorry about your loss ...he was a beautiful fish...do you have your lid completely covered now?
  23. I don't understand...if you leave the filters as they are...ah...in the tank water that is remaining inside the filter unit...why does the bacteria start to die so fast? Luke, you said Is the lack of oxygen caused by non-movement of the water through the filters? Also, I didn't know that adding water that is too cold, could kill the bacteria?
