  1. Bill, I'm a bit confused...now there's a surprise :-?   Whether it is an airstone, bubble wall, whatever, if it causes more surface movement doesn't it mean more oxygen????? I've always had something in my 10 gallon with my goldfish. Now, recently I did use a bubble wall, but holy cow it didn't take much to realize that it was just too, too much, so I cut the bubble wand to make it smaller. The other 2 tanks (29 gallon) have an airstone in them. But how can you tell if it is too much, I mean the larger bubble wall in the 10 gallon was really obvious. The tank with my barbs & red eye tetras, I thought perhaps that it was too much with the airstone because the fishies were staying more in one end of tank (posted that question in another thread). I've obviously had my hands in the tank & I can't tell if there too much...ah...movement (if you know what I'm trying to say, but then my hands are bigger than the fishies  )? The barb tank also has a bigger filter than the other 29 gallon so maybe I don't need an airstone at all, other than to give a different look so to speak, what do you think?
  2. You must be a teenager...because I'm beginning to think that they are the only people on New Zealand who AREN'T married or in a partnership
  3. Vacuum: I put the large end in the tank...hold the other end in bucket...fill hose with water...soon as it starts to run out, quickly put the part that is in the tank to fill back up. I used to put my finger over the end and fill it up, put large end back in and then take finger off, water flow. But, I've find the other way the easiest if you move fast enough  I've NEVER had to put it in my mouth to start it
  4. Hi Cyberfin Well, this is a great site for sure :bounce:      My cat Puffball couldn't care less about the fishies, I'll hold him by the tanks sometimes, he might try to "reach" through the glass, but more often than not, he's not interested  What other fishies do you have besides the Oranda? Don't forget to post pics of you fishy family sometime Take care & have fun, Caper
  5. Ok...I do have separate stuff. But, still confused :-? . Example, tank has Ick. When I finish doing the water change, I rinse the vacuum and bucket with hot water. Now, I do not use these items for other tanks, and I just put them aside till the next night. Shoot, darn...what I'm trying to ask is: 1) Is the hot water (cholorinated too) killing any nasties? and/or 2) The fact that the items are just "sitting" there won't the nasties just die with nothing to feed of off? Sorry, trying to explain :-? :-?
  6. Ahhhhhh come on Wok...some of us just live to far away...so give us the scoop
  7. Can all fish be fed shelled peas? I feed my goldfish them but none of the others!
  8. I love those fish...mind you I'll never have them...but I enjoy looking at pics of others :bounce: :bounce:
  9. Not laughing, well, the way you wrote it was funny  , but not at you heck, who hasn't made mistakes! I sure have made my share I managed to get a couple of books with some basic stuff in them, but didn't find them until after I got my first tank. It was the internet and HERE at this site that I'm learning the most. If I didn't have the net, and just trusted the people in the stores (not blaming them per say, sometimes some just don't have the knoweldge either!), I'd be lost and would no doubt have given up on the hobby long ago. Glad that things are looking up for you and people here will help you, that I know for sure

    kind of new

Yep, oh I don't know if there's a steadfast rule  that you have to have more than one tank, or....all you fishy people, what do you say, is the "desire" to have more classify as part of the illness  Sorry about your Grandad, I hope things go well for him and your family.
  13. Hi This is a great site, wonderful people, lots of info...and always someone eager to help! So what do you have in fishies? Post some pics sometime. Take care & have fun, Caper
  14. I have seperate buckets, vacuums, nets for my tanks. I use the same cloths for them all, & I only wash them in hot water, no detergent. I have one small glass pitcher, one small plastic scoop, and one teaspoon (tsp. never goes in tanks anyway). The pitcher & scoop are usually used when I get new fishies and add water to the bag. Does rinsing in cholorinated hot water kill any "nasties" that maybe on things? Also, if you're not using these for a period of time (let's use a couple of hours or so as an example) would any nasties die, I'm wondering this because they wouldn't have any "live" hosts to live on?
  15. Good luck Sharn, I'll be thinking about you & your fishies SMcoleman, how are your fishies doing?

    Itchy fishies!

Frenchie, how's your fishies doing? No more losses I hope Yesterday, I noticed a "couple" of my tiger barbs doing some scratching, *don't panic* I tell myself. Last night, more are scratching, nothing visibile *don't panic* doing water change tomorrow (today). *Thinking, maybe small water changes for a few days to see if it helps*! Today, same scenerio, few fishies scratching...do water change, keep on eye on fishies. WELL, darn, watching fishies before and sure enough, a few have spots on them *don't panic*. Get out the Ick Guard, conditions are NOT like they were in other tank so hopefully will get it under control BEFORE it get's out of hand *don't panic*!
  17. Wonderful, amazing, beautiful....great job Crackers, your :bounce: :bounce: tank is awsome
  18. Blue died I couldn't see him so last week I was just going to do a water change with a little vacuum, but when I couldn't find him I moved things around and found his lifeless little body I have 3 mollies at the moment. I sure hope they DON'T go after my guppies

    Blood Red Gourami

I don't have gourami's but if another is chasing it could be he/she is getting nipped. Other's with more experience will guide you. Do your fish have lost of hiding places? Is it possible to move the gourami who is being chased into another tank to see if he heals? I would guess if you have a quarantine tank that may be the best place to put him/her in case the wounds...ah..end up with some kind of fungus or something from the injury.
