  2. herefishiefishie - no posts offering useful opinion or information are a waste of time
  3. good point livingart - aussie water dragons may well be different to what i kept.
  4. what a shame - if i had some i would want others to have them too - then if i lost mine there would be a back up source.
  5. I think we are allowed to post links to the auction site where it is to specifically discuss whether something is the right thing to buy, so here goes - this is the sort of thing you want, along with a lamp holder for it (can also be found on TMe). Some would say a guard but i never used one and had no problems. And then a thermostat too. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-animals/Reptiles-turtles/auction-211679936.htm
  6. I used to have some before I came to NZ - awesome little guys
  7. Not a good idea - the purpose of the heat lamp is to provide heat - (thats what the purists say at least) - i was told that ideally a heat lamp (where a light source is used for heat) should be connected to a dimming thermostat (one which gradually reduces and increases the output rather than switching on and off) - if a light is used to do this without such a device, the frequent on and off cycles (where a normal thermostat or dimmerstat is used) for the light would stress the reptiles. theres a make called habistat that make excellent controllers. hope this helps. if you use one of these you could use an infrared lamp for heating - kinda cool. check out this link . . . http://www.eurorep.net/habistat/dimming.htm
  8. Does anyone have zebra plecos any more ?
  9. Lol, thanks mate - thats what happens from surfing the net as much as i do, see too much and cant remember it all. I have located it now -
  10. Sorry to post this question, seems a bit lame, but I CANT FIND IT ! Recently there was a thread of someones tank with several large/unusual fish in it and it had dark sand as substrate. I think I even asked where the owner got the sand from and what it was called. I just cant find the thread now. Can anyone help / remember whose thread it was ? Seen so many of late can't remember. Cheers folks.
  11. See, and there you are being rude again. You came across as rude to me in the original post and you do now too. It struck me like you were discouraging people from giving their information, and that you were being sarcastic (question marks can often denote sarcasm too). Lets not get into a big argument over it though
  12. I love the panaques - truly stunning. too man fish, not enough tanks :-? :-?
  13. The point being, as you have said -you pretty much know who has what already - what adodge is trying to do is create some sort of list so we can all know who has what and be able to contact them as easily. I think that would be a useful resource. People have the right to subscribe to it or not And I am glad you have done so - you have an inspiring list there
  14. Has anything been bought or sold yet ?
  15. calvus, comprecisseps, who cares - they are BOTH awesome fish hehe
  16. Reckon thats gotta be worth a couple of free Julies (you cant blame me for trying). Dont worry, i will be watching it anyway, hehe.

  18. Darn, now i dont need to watch True Blood that i RECORDED yesterday to watch today
  19. Lol Navarre - are we a tad bored today ? Im sure theres something you could occupy yourself with more than cheap bond jokes, lol. Or do we just call you JAMES from now on, hehe
  20. lets not panic before the horse has bolted - i was on my LFS today and there are beardys and blue tongues safely for sale there, and i have seen a fair few listings on trade me recently too.
  21. I dont care WHERE I am in the line as long as Im in the line, lol.
  22. With a tank that size there is nothing to stop you keeping clowns, especially at the size you will buy them at and they are medium speed growing so odds are you will have a bigger tank by the time they need a bit more space. I had a standard 3' community aquarium with 8 clown loach in it in addition to a shoal of about 15 emperor tetra, 6 corydoras adolfoi, 3 golden gourami, 8 marbled hatchets, and a mixture of other barbs and tetras - probably close to 80 fish all up. It was running with two fluval 403's at the time with plenty of aeration and water changes - water quality and parameters were always pristine and never had any losses. Its a lot about choosing compatible fish and doing proper maintenance when you run a community tank - the emphasis on the word "community". Good luck, and I hope we get to see some pics when its at a stage you are happy with. Incidentally, its a tall tank ! You could opt to have the water level lower, say at 400 and have plants that grow up and out of the water, or do it along the lines of a swamp/mangrove biotope and put things like archer fish in there as a feature (assuming you can get them here) - have a proper lid or at least covered with mesh and you can put flies in there etc, which the fish will shoot jets of water at to catch them for food - way cool IMHO hehe.
  23. The lastest posts on this thread are VERY confusing, whats going on, aaaargh ?
