  1. hehe well if I let my husband wear the pants then I would have control over nothing!
  2. I have seen these on trade me and at the lfs. I was wanting to know what you guys think of them. They are little balls that you insert into the gravel by the roots of the plants. You only have to do it once a year (apparently) I was wondering if they are any good of if they would upset the water balance. What other form of plant growth stuff can I use that won't upset the water balance, i.e pH and ammonia. I would like to have some nice lush plants like I have seen in so many tanks but my own Cheers

  5. whats that little thing that you have in the tank holding the meat in? When I get my other tank for raising fry I would like to give some things a try as in the heart and liver mix to help them grow big and strong quickly
  6. cool buzz I shall ring around
  7. apparently we have a glazier here in invercargill and I have been told where it is. I am wanting a tank 90cm long x 40 cms high x 40 cms deep. For that size what could I expect to pay from a glazier?
  8. Just a tank or a tank with hood light. No other equipment. Some tanks have hoods that have filter and light in it also.
  9. I am after a 3ft tank and was wondering what is a good price for them. I don't wabt to buy one and then find out that I have been ripped off. How much could I expect from a glass place V's pet store V's second hand? Any opinions would be appreciated cheers
  10. Well I did a manual removal of snails the other day and the tank seems a lot cleaner lol. There is still a few smaller ones about which I didn't get but they are always comming off with water changes and I pick them off the sides when I do water changes. so far so good. Not tooo over run with snails. But fry on the other hand! SHEES! I got more fry than I have of fish over 2cms!
  11. yeah I know the ones your talking about. I have seen them with the tail your talking about and the dorsal fin your talking about also. I haven't gotten any of them as I have decided to stick to my guppies
  12. and how would thoes loaches go with a bristlenose and guppies?? I am having wicked snail probs at the moment. Laying eggs everywhere!
  13. what are the benefits of having activated carbon in the filter?
  14. I was wondering how often do you change the total sponge in the filter? My filter doesn't have the white fluffy stuff or activated carbon. Just a black sponge. When should this be renewed (not just rinsed out in tank water) In doing this could I add the white fluffy stuff and activated carbon?? What is the benefits with having it? How do I go about adding a new filter sponge if it needs to be replaced?

    Hi all,

Hi there and welcome I am in invercargill and started my first tropical tank in easter. I have guppies and a bristlenose catfish. There is a lot of information with in these forums and lots of really great people to
  16. yep I know one. Its NOT NZ based but it has a lot of info on there and awesome pics. http://www.bettatalk.com Try that site out. I hope it has the info you are after.
  17. well I am trying to keep my new tank (when I get it) as natrual coloured as possible. The sand I got is actualy a grey colour (mixed with black and white sand) and the drift wood that I manged to get off the beach is several different colours and designs so I am hoping that it will look good once set up. So I am now on the look out for a 3ft tank and make my husband feel happy by building me a stand for it
  18. so in a 3ft tank would 2 inches of sand be enough at the deepest point? I got a lot of drift wood today which is soaking and hoping to have a good looking tank by the end of it lol
  19. I am looking at getting some gear sorted for a 3ft tank and I was wanting to use sand. Will the bristlenose be ok with this? or will it be to difficult for it to clean? Its for a guppy breeding tank. No other fish.
  20. being on the bottom of the southisland I have yet to see any shell in the sand lol. All I can find is pebbles of different sizes. Only some beaches have sand. But thanks, I shall look out for that
  21. Well my tank already has some tonic salt in it. Not the full dose tho but a little bit and when I remember to do it with my water changes lol. Would the salt lower the ph by any chance? The sand that I am able to get down here is a nice colour which is why I am considering it but I still need to find out if sand is an OK substrate to have with a bristlenose.
  22. cheers for that. I will wait and see what others say about it before I seriously consider it. Manly worried about the B/N and will it be ok for him

    Wanna big one??

Yeah its in todays paper to Man thats huge! Imagin one of thoes fish steaks on your bbq!!!
  24. What about sand from the beach? Would that be ok?? If and When I get my next tank (hoping 3ft) I was wanting to put sand on the bottom as it looks smoother and nicer. Since Guppies like a bit of salt in their water would this sort of salt bother them? I also want to add my bristlenose catfish. Would he be ok on sand?? (hes getting his bristles so I finaly know its a he! )
