  1. If they will fit into the mouth of the older ones you will be lessening your problem in two ways. Less to look after and more that you don't have to feed so much. Of course you have the added bebefit of the fish growing bigger as well. They will also pick on the smaller ones if the can't directly eat them. Put in a divider. No heater needed, and your putting of a MTS attack for a period of time. But it will occur at a later date. Better go and set up some more of my tanks. Alan 104

    WHAT CAN YOu DO

My original posting did not refer to any GM or GE or line breedings of different species. It was solely with the injection of dyes into the fish. Bill, if you leave a fish flapping around after capture you are rapidly spoiling the flesh as the fish understress is pouring in adreniline. So be smart, kill and kool the fish for your use asap. But that is not what I posted for anyway. Alan 104
  3. Do not support this practice by knowing what you are looking at in your LFS, refusing to buy them from them, telling the shop that, and threaten to, or boycotting the shop if they continue to stock them. Educate. Do this amongst your friends so as they can do similar as you as well. What am I going on about. I got an email from Practical Fishkeping today, showing below. I leave it for you to decide. They can'r sell if we don't buy. They'll STOP Alan 104

    An idea for fry

I'd say go for it but I'd be a bit concerned about the heat of the sun from 11am to 3 pm, you may have to supply shade for that period. When some killy keepers have raised they fry outside they have had great success. Saw over at EJ's place 2 weeks ago, in a wine barrel half, breeding Paradise fish and peppered corydora quite happily outside. Alan 104
  8. Good one CB. Keep in touch. Have you any pics? Or will a google search of that name find them?? Alan 104
  9. Why noy go to the recyclers. You'll get purpose made glass, able to withstand more extreme temps than your lights can ever hope to get to. I'm talking about the glass in a stove door or in a Kent-fire or similar. Cost?? Give the guy a couple of bottles of ale, the small ones. Alan 104
  10. Nah nah nah nah na naaaaaaa!!! I know who you ar---are Welcome aboard. My platys are doing fine and the female is not far from showing me the reasom I bought her. The Sterbais are doing ok too. Alan 104
  11. Your link didn't work vickih. Unless you have taken appropriate action when feeding live food, you will also kill your S/H's. The livefood can not be allowed to be at the surface, the babies will ingest air which will cause their demise. When touring the SH Farm at Napier, this was pointed out and they blacked out the top part of their tank to force the phototropic animals to stay away from the unlit surface area. On touring a tropical SH breeders establishment the other day in Tauranga, I was informed that his are "taught" to eat dead food and he solves his problem that way. He breeds four colour varieties of the Hippocampus kuda, for the overseas market which he states is "Doing very well just quietly Alan". For him it was a huge step that he laid out everything and has come up smelling of a bed of roses. Alan 104
  12. How are you feeding your ponies?? Alan 104
  13. You can cook it, but watch out when a drop of water hits it. Alan 104
  14. The seller is a breeder and closing down Alan. They are good fish. Too much for me tho. Alan 104
  15. I'd try before I buy with that one. They will service your tanks no sweat, but you wont be able to stand their noise. Cat had one that she sold to EJ and he on-sold it to Alan M, but AlanM had a fishroom at another persons place, so it fitted in okay there. EJ got a pump finally that look like a "The Pump". One that you can't hear and check to see if it is working by looking at the air in the tanks. I have a similar one, Yasunaga. It would fit into a box 300mm x 250mm x 250mm, and it does all my tanks, and I have a lota tanks. Have a look here http://www.fine-yasunaga.co.jp/english/ ... lp-30a.htm Alan 104

  17. Yeah boy And I haven't got my boat finished yet either. Oh well, just grab a tank as it floats outa the fish room. Alan 104
  18. Not at all at all. Just gives you ample opportunity to alter the plan of your new house to incorporate a purpose built internal fishroom. Hope you have shares in a glass company. Alan 104

Not sure what meds you have in Canada to treat your axyie Alan 104
  22. How big are they Mitch?? Alan 104
  23. Lucky one peanut. But when trying to stop a leak, you work from the pressure side, inside the tank!!. You can do as Bill says, and if you have a crack form in the base as I have had, water leakage is fairly rapid. I just moved back the gravel on the base, cut a piece of glass, slapped silicone all around the patch and put it over the damaged area. It is still there to this day, and that must be ten years at least ago. NEVER try to repair a crack from the outside of the tank as the water will just travel the crack to exit at the end of the it. Alan 104
  24. Yes it is a shame about the quality of the pics. Try harder next time CB. Nice looking fish tho from what I can make out. What was the damage dollar-wise?? Alan 104
