You can't get PURE ammonia Chris, It's too dangerous. It just have to be the uncontaminated toilet variety. Check at your local chemist, tell them what it's for, keep in a well labelled bottle and in a SAFE place. I aquired mine from a local industrial site down this way. Alan

  10. Me thinks that the gravel is also a form of calcium pollution. Any shell in it?? If so, unless you change everthing dramatically, you've got a great Rift lake set up. You plants are coldwater?? Uh Huh, the ones I see there are quite capable of growing very well in a tropical tank. Alan
  11. There should be no anmmonia or nitrate reading. Don't get too happy yet Alan

Just checked them Rob. MMMMM might have to go along with what you said, and remember, you said it. But I'll try to find it for you. I've three of them, hopefully a male with two females. I have the advantage of being able to go look at them at any time without a half hour trip Alan

  23. I use a couple of those big blue drums, filled with water, in the fishroom, so the temp is the required heat all ready. From this I have a long 3/4" plastic pipe, with pump attached, to refill tanks. Removing: I hand syphon using a gravel cleaner, but as a watch has to be kept for any elusive fish, the water goes to a bucket, and then out to water the garden or lawn. I have got provision for the waste to go to an internal drain I put in, this is primarily used when empting the bigger tanks. Alan
  24. Well Rose and I had both decided we would save up so I could go, and up to last Conference we were ahead of target, but as usual, due to unforseen circumstances, the money had to be used for other things. So my name will be off the list. bummer Alan
  25. Then they'll eat the eggs. My money would be on the parents having a midnight snack. alan
