  1. Treat them as if you were bringing home fish from the LFS, (YOUR INSIDE TANK), and putting them into your aquarium (YOUR POND). Alan 104

Depends how much water you change. Alan 104
  3. Make a family outing out of it and go catch your own native fish from the local streams. Small, clear streams coming out of the bush are good target areas. We use to do this in the NZ FWNFC, and some of my most enjoyable times were splashing around in the water in our persuit of our target fish. It is amazing what a little ingenuity and patience can reward you with. Only catch juveniles tho, and try to transfer the fish to the bag without the fish leaving the water, they are VERY prone to whitspot. Our catching bags were dosed with furenace spp?, an attempt to prevent any ailments attacking our targets. White bait are natives, and now is the whitebait season, just don't fritter them on the way thru the kitchen tho. Alan 104
  4. Golden Barbs go okay in cold water. Leopard fish, another one. Some Killies don't mind the cooler temps either. DON'T get a Chinese Algae Eater  I didn't think you need heating up that way. Aren't you guys 18 plus thru winter. Trops will be okay at that. Alan 104
  5. There's a big place out on the Mt. Wellington Highway for stones and pebbles. Alan 104

  7. Woops. Sorry, should have read the full post. The different body shape tetras give a different way of sexing them eg, the Back Widow, - - take away all the fins, what shape body do you have. Round or ovalate?? The round ones are the females. Look at a group of tetras,neon-shape for example You will see slim bodies and fatter boddies, fatter =female. Also the longer shaped tetras like the neons, that have a longitudinal line running the length of their bodies, will be bent (the line that is) if it's a female. Colour variation of the eyes, eg, congo tetrashave green or blue eyes, green = females. The head and taillight tetra types are easily sexed by their shape, fat v slim method. Of course you can't leave out the variations you have with the male V female, where as in most species, the male is more gaudy than the female. Ever noticed when netting a group of tetra in a fine net, how sometimes you'll get some that snag and just hang suspended in the net?? Those are males, they have hookson their anal fins. With the emerald eyes, and I think they may be emerald eyed rasbora, just go by the fat/slim method. But the surest way of sexing them is that the ones that lay eggs are females, and if any babies appeared, you had at least one male in there somewhere. Alan 104
  8. Specifically,what tetra or tetras?? Alan 104
  9. I'd go for males here too. It is really noticeable that in a few species, only males are being imported. I'm afraid that this is just another of these species. But you may be lucky and find one that has slipped thru. Alan 104

What other fish have yougot in with the neons? What were your last buys, and when? Good luck Alan 104
  12. This is another fish/species that I would not buy on principle. They are now WAY OUT of popularity in the east. It is a man-made cross between two species, that by nature, was not designed. Alan 104
  13. The last WCMM I got cost me 40C, and I was told that if I had of asked I couldhave got them for free. never mind. Breed killies, they're generally easy and VERY easy to sell. Alan 104

    jellybean tetras

To tru Rob, same as the "painted fish" too. Alan 104
  15. WCMM are dearer than that. (highest I've seen is $4.95) We pay $7 plus in the Bay Alan 104
  16. A bit what Sahe?? Try breeding them in the heat, or closed to air, or too wet. I'm not wrong LB Alan 104
  17. Read wot I said again They are as easy to breed as neons Didn't say neons were easy. Meant that if you can breed neons, why muck around with something you only get a few cents for when you can make dollars with the same effort. Alan 104

    jellybean tetras

We do not support the sale of these fish They are GE'd Alan 104
  19. Why don't you put in your profile where you are from, them your locals may be able to help you Alan 104
  20. Too wet. Too warm. No ventilation. Ideal way to wipe them out. Alan 104
  21. Do cardinal tetras. They're bigger, better, and you get better returns for the probs, and just as easy to breed as neons. Alan 104
  22. shiuh, why don't you join a fish club down there and I'm sure you'll get first hand informationon ANY problems you have. You'll also have buddies that are prolly willing to come and give you a hand. Alan 104
  23. You sieve the BBS from the hatching mix before you feed them the hatched shrimp. Are you sure that that is what killed them?? I've raised thousands of baby fish on BBS and don't attribute any of their deaths to that. Alan 104
  24. Keep an eye on the other fish  Alan 104
