  3. Well today is the day for the first fundraiser for TT. Mrs Loopy has just left to help get things going. It should do well as Animates are having a fun day and guess where it it :-) (Animates Papanui) Christchurch fish lovers please show your support for the new club. We are a social bunch that has a diverse range of fish interests. I'll try to do updates during the day if people are interested. Mr L
  4. bgk will betta buffet when he gets big enough to chow down. They have surprisingly big mouths and if it won't fit in they will make it fit.
  5. Darn it. Loopy has just finished the 4m banner!!!!! Mr L
  6. I hope i get to see all you Chch folks at the papanui animates sausage sizzle tomorrow.
  7. One male fighter with 4 females in a 2 foot x 1 x 1 foot planted tank should be the happiest little man in the whole world. I have basically got that set up and my boy has spawned and is working on wooing the next lady. It can depend on the individual personalities of each fish but i say try it for sure. don't worry about dividers. the female sshould get along fine together and the male will be busy getting distracted with all the girls on offer.
  8. try feeding bristle nose fry shelled peas that have been slightly squished. My best piece of advise would be to try everything until you find what works best for you and your fish.
  9. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/breeding_scheme/rules0/ all the rules for you in case ya didn't know where to look
  10. p'med ya and No. They will not have an off button. sorry
  11. probably not. A lot of fry need the movement of live food to attract them to eat it. I guess it comes down to an instinct thing. And besides I don't think they can make a prepared food that is as nutritional, rich and efficient as live foods. There are plenty of foods to try for the cichlid fry as they tend to be a bigger fry straight from hatching. baby brine shrimp, micro worms, daphnia are all easy to culture. As for the smaller fry like tetras and danios you can't beat a good infusoria culture to get your fry growing like mad. If you come along to a couple of totally tanked meetings i might share my TOP SECRET-experimental-(still-in-the-testing-stages) small fry food which is super easy to use
  12. This is the only bit that has me doubting it is a kuhli. I wouldn't describe a kuhlis dorsal as being "long" **SNAP** Cichlid7 lol
  13. Just to throw another thing in here. to me it sort of looks like velvet but don't know about the spots as such Mr L
  14. My parents have been convinced for years that i am trying to set the world record for the "Worlds most disorganised person". So with the progress the club is making i am hoping to prove them wrong. mwahaha!!
  15. Christchurch Totally Tanked's new commitee is President -Sharon Powe (loopy) Treasurer - Erica P (carznkats) Secretary - Janelle (Janelle) Everything seems to be falling into place just right I think :bounce:
  16. Thanks everyone for another great night. And THANK YOU especially to Janelle and Flatmates for lending us all the comforts of your living room. Your efforts are very appreciated. AND CONGRATULATIONS to Erica and Janelle for their newly appointed positions!
  17. I hope you all have been thinking about what position on the committee you want to have Mr L
  18. Thank you Janelle (and flatmates) for your kind offer! I think it would be great fun to come and visit and have a meeting at your place. I will fill myself up with antihistamines before i come, Hopefully that will help with the cat. and yep you are on to it Wilson. Your help would be hugely apperciated
  19. I think it would be very silly not to accept the offer. i would like to see how many are interested and who can contribute and assist with the whole event. Do you have to let them know by a certain date? (I am a bit scared to do it by myself as i have never done anything like it before )
  20. Get atleast a 1.5L bottle. Fill with 1L of water. Put lid back on and turn upside down. Mark bottle atleast 50mm above water line. Cut along marked line (once drained water). Cut another bottle as the holder so it sits "correct way up" and hatchery bottle sits inside "lid down". Some people drill a small hole in the lid for the airline but we don't. Air stones clog easily so we have found it best to not use any OR get the plastic multi piece ones OR put airline through lid. Mr L
  21. We hatch ours in an upside down coke bottle. This sits in one of the tanks to keep it warm. Yes airation is necessary. You don't want it to bubble like mad, enough for a nice "current" in the bottle. Shrimp hatch in about 20-30 hours from our experience. Mr L
  22. Meeting Date : 1st of September, 5.00pm. Location : 57A Hoon Hay Road unless someone else would like to host this month??? Let us know. A place that free of distractions and got a good space for us all to sit together would be ideal. Remember to consider who you would like to nominate as a Secretary, President, Treasurer and possibly Editor (i know Caryl would love to see us with our own newsletter)or any other position that you see as necessary or of interest, Or if you would like to run for one of these positions yourself, consider how you will convince us you will be the best for the job. Bring something for a shared dinner. And bring along anything you want to sell or share. We have also been offered a site to do a fundraising barbecue for Saturday 15 of September. Please consider if you are available to assist with this as it will be an excellent opportunity to advertise and spread the word about the club. More will be discussed at the meeting. Look forward to seeing you all!!
