  1. Firstly I seriously doubt there is anyone in this country that has the depth of knowledge too really help you. Guppy genetic's is very complex and even harder if you don't know what you are starting with. Please note I have a 3.5 metre room dedicated to creating guppy strains, my focus right now is on pink mutation guppies eg The Panda guppy XpinkXpink Ymoscow Xpink The Pink Mutation has a red inhibiting and a delta tail inhibiting Gene. Also you must be very careful not to introduce yellow colour cells other wise the white platinum will reflect the yellow, I know this as I created a Gold Albino platinum around 2006 from an albino white platinum male and a Green Diamond female ( GD has yellow ). Now down to your Male.... What is he????? Starts for 10, getting rid of the red will be very hard for 2 reasons. 1, it is a VERY DOMINANT colour 2, He may well be a full or mostly red fish. LOOK on top of his head... he's a red head!!!! I have a very similar fish except he has red fins and my research is pointing in the direction of the fish you have being a poor quality Tai Platinum Pink ( don't worry about me using the word "poor" as we grab what we can.) So I believe your goal is not possible with out first creating this strain. To prolong his life keep him cool high teens - low 20's. The best fish to use is a Blonde red tail. The female fry will be carry 1 copy of his platinum gene. When the female fry are 3 months old breed them back to you male, waste the males! 25% of the resulting female fry will carry a double copy of his X Chrom and if your lucky some of the males will look close. P.s I think this line maybe a magenta!!! ( magenta messes with the colour cells, it will double up the same as the platinum gene), which really complicates things, Oh they may carry a single copy of the albino mutations( they also must be doubled up to be revealed ) as Albino Tai platinum pinks are sold by the Asian commercial breeders === Google
  2. In the past I have seen very poorly coloured Leopards, I strongly suspect that's what they are. If they are G. holbrooki of ant type or cross, they would most certainly be illegal as to my knowledge they have not been in the country before( or at least not for an extremely long time ) and so would be an illegal import.
  3. Scoria can contain heavy metals, so needs to be washed and washed and ....... (you may still have a problem). Once you have done this it will still release very fine sand size scoria that is very sharp ( it's a hazard to water pumps and glass ). Scoria also works best in a wet dry configuration, the air around the media allows the bacteria to proliferate to a greater level. It also appears to brake down (due to water erosion maybe) over time, producing even more fine sand size pieces. If you can afford the 'sintered glass noodles' it would be a better option, so would a wet dry configuration (for out right biological filtrating power).
  4. It's a shame you can't take a picture to show us. But it may just be your guppies are ribbon fin. Google " ribbon Fin Guppies " and " Swallow Tail Guppies ". Ribbon and Swallow are the same except Swallow affects the tail as well. Oh, this is a fin mutation some like it others don't.
  5. Yeah that could be a tadd small. The smallest tank in my fish room that I can use to breed "mini fish" is 15 x 15 x 30cm.
  6. No "Silver Birch", I did mean what I said = no error. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birch
  7. They may fell to confined, I place a trap in the tank with moss above it. What is the size of the tank and the size of your holding trap H x W x length
  8. Yes I use a trap as pictured in your mini fish thread. The adults are removed after 7 to 10 days.
  9. They also eat Silver Birch ( I assume were talking about Empire Gum Moth Cat's )
  10. I had a female give birth to 7 albino fry earlier in the week, I didn't even know they carried the albino gene's.
  11. caserole

    piranhas

Did you guy's not see the program on them, candiru follow ammonia trails. This normally leads to fish gills but on the odd and MOST unfortunate occasion an urethra, so if you do go swimming in the Amazon DON'T PEE in the pool!!!!! Or carry a dead fish as there are larger relatives of the candiru that will eat you from the inside out. Ya just gota  the Amazon
  12. Some albino females never give birth to albino fry, they just develop eggs and reabsorb them. This could be your problem..... have you tried mating them to a non albino male??? and mating the fry together as 25% should be albino.
  13. cheers, It's something a bit different and a lot easier then guppy genetics. :smln:
  14. Ok Stuff it, I was keeping the project between myself and a mate in Dunner's It's a new project sophia( I do have hatched eggs ), the grey female are High fins. The final goal is Gold High Fin wcmm. When I breed the fry together in 2.5 - 3 months I should get some gold high fins, not many, in fact very few but all I need is 1 male ( to breed back to his 50/50 sisters )but a pair would be great. This is not anything new, they have them in other country's. I just thought I'd like to make them as I've not seen them around.
  15. I'm crossing gold males with grey wcmm deliberately right now!! And I don't see anything wrong with it!
  16. I don't know what to say
  17. Apisto. pertensis is not the most colourful species, although because of that they don't get imported very often.
  18. Did you find a female?? If not you can use a standard female and do a cross back to bring the orange flash out again > I used to breed them 10 years a go. This is an old photo of what I had .....
  19. You misunderstand. That link was to a ""see thru guppy"". It's not the same as a glass guppy.
  20. No, not what I'm looking for. they are see thru guppies and not in the country as they are $100's of $$. Thanks anyway.
  21. Has anyone seen glass belly guppies in NZ??
  22. That is very similar to a tank connector ( water tanks ) which can be purchased from mico Plumbing and possibly other plumbing stores. They come in many sizes including 25mm although not like the one you have pictured.
  23. Looks good. The important thing is to make them fell secure in there environment as they are a bit skittery.
  24. Yes, I assume it a small plastic tank with the bottom cut out, if the fish can't get caught in the mesh it should work for a pair. Cover the base with moss, don't worry about swimming space. Most of these species come from heavily planted waters, I know this for sure in the case of the CPD's. the area got destroyed by fish collectors. I didn't mention I paint all my tanks black as clear Glass can cause reflection problems/scare the breeders. Because they come from heavily planted areas low light can help/black paint
