    Clown Trouble

My clowns decided hair algae was their host. So I did as above a couple of months ago and they moved into a tourch coral.. Now I have another anemone I will do the same trick, when I have some time off to monitor the progress... Although the clowns are now fast losing interest in the coral... maybe they already sense the anemone.
  2. Tank etc $2,250 Live stock $1,175
  3. If you have smaller anemones that you don't want. Brianemone told me to put calcium on them. works for me. Mix calcium into a paste then put in a old needle. then make the anemone retract. then squirt it on the anemone.
  4. Bait catcher nil.... dotty wins again. In fact he guarded the food in it from my cleaner shrimp... Him he is a gumpy little fellow... mainly to my two chromis.
  5. the cleaner shrimp i was mentioning were the common ones. red backs with a white line down the middle. But since you have shrimps already then propably not enough room. the common cleaner shrimp has the advantage of being active during the day, and are so friendly that when i'm working on the tank they crawl all over my arms.
  6. How do I catch him? He knows the game, stays close to the rocks and hides when the net hits the water. I have an old bait catcher do you reckon that would work??? I left the nets in the tank for an hour with food in it, but he hid. Cheers
  7. I still think the best white spot cure is natures one. 2* cleaner shrimp. Will eat the white spot

    Skimmer test

I would love to see the two skimmers side by side going for it in a test. A pic a day for two weeks, skim stuff tipped into two labeled containers for conparision. If you could do that reef it would be interesting. As for making money Reef your prices are sharp (very good) and if you can make money on those mark ups then good on you. I was very happy with my deltec price. Like buying a porshe for a BMW's price.
  9. My tank has cost (excluding stock) $2,250 Acardia 3000 series (1* 150 watt metal halide and twin blues) +$456.50 (trade me 6 months old) Deltec MCE600 new $700 (via the net) Surface skimmer $20 (trade me) Seio M1100, and M820 $100 & $85 (via mate and net) Heater $40 (local pet store) Tank $140 (local pet store) Stand $200 (via builder mates, mate) Safety cut out boards $30 (dick smith) Coral sand $50 (local pet store) Coral rock $200 (via mate and local pet store) Test kits & other etc.. $208.50 (via pet stores) barrels, glass cleaners Fans $20 (the warehouse) So its possible for under 2,500. as I am adding a Reverse Osmosis unit for under $200 soon
  10. On Marine Depot I am looking at either Captive Purity (RO) 2-stage compact 35GPD unit, or Kent Marine Bare Bones (RO) System Well either of these units reduce my hair algae

    RO top up.

my $10 warehouse fan uses 15watts, but a water top up is needed
  12. reef central www.reefcentral.com has a really good one.
  13. Apparently $92.00 using their rates. (cents)
  14. If its a feather duster. I've got heaps. They are good in my opinion and spread fast

    Seio bashers

My deltec makes more noise than my seio's Just a little hummings in the background from the deltec. Nice and quiet
  17. Slappers I saw that trigger at the gold fish bowl too. Looked on the net for its background, stuff that. It maybe there for some time..
  18. Hey I would run two Deltec MCE600's this is due to them being able to hang on the back, and not inside the aquaium. Also it has a space for filter stuff, like carbon, filter wool (makes a great refgium for pods etc) and rowaphos. My tank is 200 litre with seven small fish and heaps of softies, and other stuff. It works really well, you can also add a surface skimmer to it. Cheers
  19. Hey are there any angel fish that can be kept with clams. Cheers My preferences would be Flame angel or coral beauty

    To hot to handle

Well today te tank was at 26 degrees at 11.00 am I bought a $10 fan from the warehouse. (Actually 2 one for tank, one for me). Uses 17 watts of power, so small and cheap to run. Within 30 minutes the tank has returned to 25 degrees. Will look into an automatic topper upper though. And will monitor the tank over the next two months. I am looking into a doser unit so that may have a dual purpose. Ie water changes, at same time as water is begining removed. Meaning no pre-heating (surf to tank from cold) at 1 gallon an hour or something like that.

    To hot to handle

Yes thanks for the info. My tank went to 26 degrees today and its October.... I will try fans during this week. But most likely chiller, or heat/ air conditioner unit.
  22. What is to hot for a marine aquarium? Last summer before livstock was added my tank hit 32 degrees. Now I have shrimps, coral, clam, and fish. What are your guys opinions as to too hot? How mush heat would a good fan take out. or do I need a chiller. Our house is a sun magnet in summer. Cheers. Also issues with plumbing in a chiller as I don't have a sump.
  23. Hey slappers. With all that wood bracing around the tank how do you access it. Is the a door in behind it?
