    New tank

The glass is cut so will pick up tonight or tomorrow $193 all up including GST. Including drilling and 8mm glass All the stand has cost so far is $168 (including fittings) Stand is 1/4 finished at the moment with a 3-4 mm gap at the back due to miss calculations...   .. But I thought of the remedy today and will not effect its strength and will not be visible when tha tanks finished. I am taking photos but no time to put them up till the tank is running.

    New tank

Well I moved the tank to finish the flooring. Now I am going to replace the tank, and stand, as it is 3-4 years old Old tank is 122cm(length)*46cm(deep)*38cm(wide) New tank is going to be 90cm(long)*60cm(deep)*50cm(wide) and I aim building the tank and stand myself. Will keep you updated... only have a week to build the whole thing.... (This time it will not be tools down when the surfs up)

    Seaweed Salad

Personally I think my tang noticed the difference. The tang likes the expensive stuff more. You can actually see a difference between the two types of product, but not sure what it is. I went back to using the sea weed salad... I also noted there was a longer shelf life of sea weed salad, and it was easier for the fish to eat... also it does not smell as much as the supermarket stuff. But its heaps for $5.00 or a small amount for $12.50 Only my opinion though... I only have one Tang, if I had 4-5 tangs I would use the supermarket stuff as its cheaper.
  6. emptying the tank works best for dottybacks... the bait catcher didn't work
  7. Best advice on catching one..... empty your tank....... Well I moved everything last night.... took 4 hours Into a holding tank while I finish off the flooring under the tank also so I could catch the fella. Mission And I caught that dottyback......

    clown fish

The ammonia never registers now The Nitrite never registers now The Nitrate is about 40 pp/m. I have done a 30 water change yesterday so I think it will have dropped heaps.

    clown fish

Fay: I feed them twice a day. Flake for breakfast (combination of "tetra" spirulina and "tetra marine flakes "rainbow blend) Then some nights flake, others brine shrimp (pre-frozen) or Marine mix (pre frozen seafood mix) All in really controled amounts. I have stopped using coral fluid and that has improved water quality alot. Also it does not help with that dottyback hassling the tank... and nipping at anythhing smaller (manadrin, chromis, and clowns who use the anemone as a defence against him) (but moving the tank today so I am sure I am going to catch him now) :bounce: :bounce: . :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

    clown fish

I don't know why But I have had trouble with keeping my clown fish alive. I have a yellow tang, two chromis, coral beauty, manadrin fish, a royal dottyback, and now one clown after the otherone died yesterday. Only ever lose clown fish. Now I have to find another female The list 1st one jumped out. so I modified the tank to stop that occuring again. 2nd one stopped eating and starved after the first one jumped out. 3rd and 4th got from a shop with a disease (one to relace the first sick one they sold me, and that had the same sickness) 5th got a bubble eye thing, and as soon as she was getting better she just died. This is within a year so I'm not happy. As my aim to to have a happy little tank with all animals suriviving together.. I am more sad for the lost soles in the tank.

  14. yes I have heard of it being used before. Not very successful with heavy bio-loads.
  15. Can anyone in the hamilton area lend me a 4 foot tank for a week or so. As I need to finish the flooring in our house and have to move the tank and contents to do it. Hey and maybe I'll catch that dottyback at the same time

    Auckland Zoo

Hey I went there today.. and it finally looks like they are starting to put a little bit of effort into the marine tank. Alot of work to go, to be like the tanks on this site but they now have about 5-6 different tangs, and a few types of soft corals. They still need some invertibates and better lighting.. but a big improvement since last year.. I reaken give it a year or so and it will be impressive. thats if they put some more dollars into it. Cheers. Apart from that the zoo is looking real good and they are getting cheetahs in March
  17. It started last week. The clowns pulled out some white bait I was feeding the anemone. Then now with mussel. They are not eating the food just removing it from the anemone before he can eat it. Is this common? Or does someone have any ideas why they are doing this?
  18. Does anyone know what they are doing?? Both my perculas are sucking on the long tenticle anemones tenticles
  19. will melafix effect any corals and or invertibrates. Cheers
  20. Does anyone know what causes it? My clown fish has a eye that looks like a bubble and swollen does anyone know what is wrong and how I can cure it? Cheers

    Black Percula

yip i heard the same about the maroon clowns
  22. I use an old plastic home brew keg. Unscrew the top and dip in the water. Two advantages less chance or getting wet when water surges. It fills in less than three seconds, and has a tap on the bottom of it. and holds 25litre

    Weipro skimmer

I had one. I think they work well for the "price". They are hard to clean properly though. Send more now and get a really good skimmer so you don't have to spend again later.
  24. I'm getting an auto feeder, and just mark a line on the tank so someone can add water every two or three days, set fans on full speed, and i'm off on hoilday..

    happy anemone

Well all looking good. the anemone has not moved in nearly two weeks, and last night I saw his base stuffed right under the coral rock. Thanks dottyback for orginally digging the hole. I don't think you could move him if you tried. If only the dottyback would stop guarding it the clowns might make it there home. They kept swimming that way last night and the dotty kept defending it... ooohhh that sneaky dottyback... The anemones a big boy though... and after a water change last night he has spreadout even more.
