  1. The nitrates have dropped overnight to 60 ppm. I am getting 60 litres of sea water this afternoon. (luck I surf aye).. Two trip in one. $15 gas or $15 worth of salt... Either my salt is free or my surfing costs nothing. I will get some RODI water from slappers as I can dilute the sea water as in Rags it is generally around 1.026-1.029 depending on the day. (I think this is kind of movement in salinity is strange ah) My fish stock has not changed for about 4-5 months. when it was about 10-20 ppm I have been feeding to much i think.... I also started using coral food again... that always seems to be a problem maker so in the bin it goes.. Cheers
  2. The tank has been going 14 months. I have about 100 kg of live rock. I think I will cut down my corals. Skimmer is a deltec and removes heaps. I will cut down my feeding levels. This maybe the problem. I did not end up with Bio balls in the end. I also have now changed my filter wool. Thanks for the advice guys.
  3. I checked today 80 ppm. Thats high I think.. I do 15% water change per week so how else can I get it down?? Cheers

    My MCE600

Hey When I got my one there was alot of bubbles. In a week or two it will work fine pumping tons of yucky stuff out. My MCE600 has been going for 6 months now and there are no return bubbles. You will learn were you want the intake set on (your preference) More water flow the more likely to overflow... I suggest you have less flow and more bubbles for now.. Hope this helps Cheers
  5. I heard that metro glass in auckland have the largest glass drill bits in auckland Cheers

    Adding fish

I would go chromis first due to being hardy and cheap... I would then add a fish a month/ or invertibrate.. This lets your tank adjust and gives you time to plan and research new additions... Also time to order of pick out healthy specimens.. It also impresses friends when everytime they visit there is something new to find and look at. Cheers and good luck

    Sick

Are they those Bali fishermen cutting off sharkfins... I say sink their boats... Lucky I am not a captain in the Aussie navy... it would be an international incident....
  8. I used to have my ones living in a torch coral, and before that some hair aglae. Even heard of them living in pulsing xenia. They do not need a host anemone in a reef aquarium. Welcome and good luck
  9. Since some of these are hard corals How many/ big can they get before I would have to look into calcium reactors.. I sort of want to keep away from getting so heavy duty on my tank for the time being... Cheers

    2' tank

I used to have a weirpro 2014. It would do the trick and good value for money. The only problems I see are the pump sits in the tank, and when you want to clean it it can be differcult. Brianomones 88litre tank used to run one and did a great job. Cheers
  11. I just got these and need advice on the best conditions for them and their names Cheers guys

    2' tank

I always think you should get a deltec MCE600. This is because it is the best and if you ever upgrade (most likely) then you can still use it. Cheers

    Sad looking tank

What brand is the carbon.. sometimes on cheaper carbon the dust gets into the tank and the corals hate it. I put my carbon before my skimmer so any dust just gets skimmed out, works really well. Hope this helps Cheers Also what is KH?

    anemone issues

Since mooving the tank the anemone has lost his stick (in the move he moved under a rock for 2 days then feel on his face for another 3 days and I couldn't get to him.. He is now only half his orginal size, not eating, and will not stick to a rock. On the good side he is regaining colour. He slipped of his rock last night and killed my torch coral frag. and can still sting me good.... like a needle.... so that must be good. Any tips please

    Swimming Worms

I have these too. Kind of interesting when they swim around. I would also love to know what they are.

    surface film

Even with a deltec without an overflow or surface skimmer you will get that build up....
  17. man I though I was onto a winner. you know 30 cleaner shrimp @$20 each would have been nice. At least they are something else cool that I have never noticed before. It just co-insided with my cleaner shrimps eggs... Pies why do the baby cleaner shrimp die so quickly???
  18. maybe 50 the more I look its teaming with them. how do I feed them. etc etc
  19. I couldn't beleive it I was looking at my design fault in my overflow (waste food sinking to the bottom) about five minutes ago then I saw flicking movements. I was like it must be pods so I looked to see how many were in there. and then one about 6-7mm long swam past.. It was a shrimp so I looked harder and saw 20-30 of various sizes. I am going to see if they will grow on. very cool ahh They must grow fast as the tank has only been going a month..
