  1. Bump. Just a reminder that there are no further meetings planned for this club.
  2. Well we have tried but there is no point in bashing your head against a brick wall. The first meeting had 11 people. All keen. The second had 2 people. The third had seven including 6 previous members. Nobody was interested in taking on positions in the club so it was decided that future meetings at this stage would just be along the lines of a social get together, with the hope that a club would grow out of this. Finally our first social meeting held on Tuesday this week. Surprise, surprise 1 person turned up with 2 apologies. Debby and I have decided that we have more to do with our time than hang around home on a Tuesday night in the forlorn hope that somebody might take it into their heads to come along and eat the supper we have prepared. Therefore there will be no further meetings at our place until further notice.
  3. Just a reminder that our next get together is this tuesday night, 7.30pm 21 Maire Street Inglewood. All welcome.
  4. Well we had our second meeting last night. What a dissapointment!. Thanks to Muzza and Tony for turning up. After the enthusiasm last meeting I thought we were on the way, but only having 2 people turn up doesnt bode well for the future. I am hoping that it was just a case of forgetfulness or maybe the result of a long weekend with school holidays as well. Not to give up easily we will try again on Tuesday 12th May 7.30pm 21 maire Street Inglewood. Please if tuesday night is not suitable let me know. Come on folks, mark this date in your diary
  5. Fortunately the rain stopped but due to the damage it had done we have found it neccesary to rebuild the ponds completely. Luckily these ponds, which had to be built in a hurry, were going to be made more permanent when time permitted. Time is now.
  6. Come on people. Only four replies so far. I am sure there are many more of you out there who would like to meet other fishies and share notes, experience, etc. REMEMBER THIS IS NOT COMMITTING YOU TO A CLUB
  7. Where is the fish to be picked-up from in New plymouth. Dont need address just suburb will do
  8. It is proposed to hold an informal get together at 21 Maire Street Inglewood Tuesday 10th March 7.30pm to gauge the interest in reviving the local club. This is a no obligation meeting, more a "meet and greet" session. Please advise if you wish to attend and please bring your friends. Phone (06) 7567 521

    Hello

I dont want to hi-jack this forum but I would like to anounce an informal get together at 21 Maire Street Inglewood Tuesday 10th March 7.30pm to guage the interest in reviving the local fish club. This is as much a "meet and greet" as anything else. An indication of those likely to attend would be appreciated. Phone (06) 7567 521
  10. Pleased to say that we managed to save the whole lot. If you had seen the area that they were spread over and under you would realise that this was quite some achievement. Just to hijack this forum: we are proposing to have an informal get together at 21 Maire Street Inglewood on Tuesday 10th March 7.30pm to guage the interest in restarting the local fish club. This is a no obligation meeting and as much a "greet and meet" as anything else. an indication of anybody likely to attend would be appreciated. Phone (06) 7567 521.
  11. It is a big worry at the moment. The rain is still falling after we have already had 120mm in the last 24hrs. I am going out just about every 10 minutes to check. Getting paranoid
  12. It has been raining heavily non-stop since last night here in the Naki. Finally got a break in the rain late this afternoon so chose a quick moment to go and feed my outside pond fish. Walked out to the site to find that the rain had totally undermined one of my aboveground ponds and one side wall had collapsed. Fifty odd goldfish flapping around in the rain and what puddles had formed. Checked another pond and found that undermined as well and that some of the fish had got in underneath. Caught all the flappers, put them in a spare pond, then frantically pulled the other pond apart to rescue what fish I could. So far touch wood I am only down 2 ponds and possibly 1 fish that may not survive. Looks like I am going to have a few very busy days ahead of me rebuilding 2 ponds.
  13. All three sell live fish. I would reccomend in order 3, 1, 2.
  14. There are three pet shops in Taranaki. 1. Critters. Mangorei Road ex Devon Street (under new ownership) 2. Pet essentials Richmond Centre Egmont Street 3. Bzone aquarium supplies Main Street Waitara. NZ Post only redirect mail if the service is paid for by the addressee and only for as long a term as is paid.
  15. I have just purchased a "silage pit" cover from local farm supplies. 5 x 50 metres $100. gives lots of scope and is far superior to any pond liner you might buy.
  16. I have never met any person in the commercial trade who was as helpful as Bryan. Condolences to his family from a fishy who will miss his knowledge.
  17. Give me some more information by PM and I may be able to help.
  18. Its always good to start the day with some good news. hope all goes well for you Monday.
  19. Here is a suggestion that I have pinched from another site. People on this site had to raise money and as a result they were having to sell off their prized collection. The suggestion was made that instead of actually selling they put each item up for sponsorship, either totally or in part. Maybe Mark would like to consider something like this. How it would work is that Livingart list a number of their animals at suggested retail value. Those wishing to sponsor would then "purchase" i.e that is sponsor the animal. For example, say they were to put up a sulpher crested cockatoo, estimated value $1200. This could then be sponsored for the total amount or in order to cater for us lesser mortals be split into smaller amounts. Therefore Cockatoo becomes $1200 or 24 shares at $50. Another example, Red eared turtle, value $45 total or 2 shares at $22.50 each. It is quite amazing how much this could raise. The amount sponsored is a once only, not an ongoing thing If Mark was willing to go along with this I would be more than happy to keep running totals and keep the forum advised.
  20. I have already made a donation to help immediately but have to agree with Jude about ongoing costs. When you think how the cost of stock food has skyrocketed this year, e.g. conventional hay bales going from $5 to $20+, the last thing I would want to be doing is running a park like this. I also like the idea of an ongoing donation and look forward to Mark bringing us up to date with the final outcome, and with information on what we can do to help.
  21. What can we do to help??. I have just made a donation to their account. This is the best way to help.
  22. How long is a piece of string . I suggest you think very carefully about what you want because marine tanks are very addictive. You could probably house what you want in a 40-50 litre tank and they would possibly survive. Then you see a coral, another fish or something else that you want and suddenly your tank is too small. I am not trying to be nasty but I would suggest you do some real research on marine and make a considered decision. After saying all that talk to some of your local marine guys who IU am sure would be only to happy to help and hope to see you posting marine in the future. Good luck and best wishes for your tank.
  23. Congratulations to you both? Whilst I should probably not admit it I do frequent both the "light & Dark sides." This has now made me wonder what sort of skullduggery goes on with fish people and is this sort of thing allowed on a family type forum.   On one side we have Ballistic proposing to Mystic and having her accept and on the other side she accepts a proposal from Lucid. If I didn't know better I would start to think that we are promoting some type of illegal activity or maybe a new type religion. Is this where Wok gets the idea of a double wedding???
  24. Ho wok. good suggestion   Is that so more of our tax dollars can go to building more and more motorways for Aucklanders, or are they planning to build you new multi lane cycle routes.
  25. Hey Jim R. I know how you feel, we are Rural Mail contractors so have the same exhorbitant costs as you. I sometimes feel that we are brainwashed by the media with regards to company profits. Recently someone in Taranaki won lotto, 19 million. If they were to invest it in the banks they would be looking at 1.6million interest per year. Because they are private individuals we think how lucky they are. If as a share holder in a company like F & P I had 600 million invested I would expect a return of at least 48 million equal to the current bank rate. So although these profits sometimes seam excessive they are not always so if you consider the financial investment. Maybe if the government was to reduce its tax take on things like fuel, food costs etc, these big companies could still make a reasonable profit and remain competitive.
